Willie Lee Massey was born on Monday, December 29, 1941 to the late Mr. Robert Massey, Sr. and Maggie Lee Robinson Massey. He was the seventh of eight children. After 80 years, 6 months, 3 weeks, and 4 days on earth, GOD called him home to eternal rest. Willie attended Emmett Scott. He was a drummer for Hillcrest Elementary School. He retired in 2007 from Rock Hill Printing and Finishing Company after being employed there for 39 years. Willie joined Mount Hebron Baptist Church in 1951. He served faithfully as a Trustee, Yard Marshall and Van Driver. He was also a member of the Ushers Ministry, Brotherhood, Pastors Partners, and Sunday School where he served as a former Superintendent and Sunday School Teacher. He served as Chairman of the Cemetery Committee. He also served on various committees for the Sandy River Baptist Association ( Upper Division). Willie loved fishing, eating out with his brothers, and hanging around laughing and talking with his family and friends. He was a dedicated fan of the Dodgers, Rams, and Lakers. Whether a great season or not, he still bragged about all three teams. He never met a stranger. He made everyone feel like family, referring to everyone as cuz, niece, nephew, etc.
On August 31, 1963, he married Lougenia Stinson. To this union were born three children, Sandy, James, and Beb. His grandchildren and great grands were the apple of his eye. He was so proud of them all. In addition to his parents, Willie was preceded in death by his brothers, Sammy L. Massey, Ernest Massey, and William “Dub” Massey, and his sister, Frances Massey McCoy. We can only imagine the greeting he received when he entered the Gates of Heaven.
Willie will be greatly missed by all. Our Family will never be the same without him. Left to cherish his loving memories are his wife for almost 59 years, Lougenia Massey.
