Obituary For Bobbie Baker

Deaconess Bobbie Jean Baker,79, of Hastings Florida, was born on September 6, 1940 in Hastings, Florida, the second eldest of five children to Loreen Sherman and Jeremiah Baker of Hazelhurst, Georgia. She graduated from the W. E. Harris High School and worked as a seamstress at Lui-m Sewing Factory in St. Augustine, Florida. Also, a beautician in Hastings for many years, she was an elegant dresser and an accomplished cook, she lived up to her name by being one of the best baker’s in Hastings. She accepted Christ at an early age at Pompey’s Temple and later joined Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church where she was a faithful member, a Deaconess, a lead singer in the choir and a Sunday School Teacher for many years. She was the president of the Women’s Department at the St. Johns River Baptist Association and she worked on various boards, where she served diligently until her health declined. Deaconess Baker was a Christian indeed who let her light shine and her salt flavor as her life demonstrated love for God to her family, neighbors and all who knew her.

She was the mother of eight, one son, Arden Baker, preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her mother Lorene Sherman, her father Jerimiah Baker and two sisters, Tommie Jane Thompson of St. Augustine and Virginia “Pig” Teasley of Trenton New Jersey.

Deaconess Baker departed this life on October 10, 2019 leaving to cherish her memory five daughters, Velma J. Baker, Ardrene B. Wesley, Pastor Shenandoah (Isaac) Willis, Chloris Baker, Delvenere (Anthony) Baker and two sons Eric (Deralyn) Baker and Dwaundle Baker. She also leaves 25 grands, 71 great-grands and two great-great grands, two sisters, Marvel (Henry) Davis and Reverend Mae (John) Birch and one brother Robert (Bernice) Sherman, Brother in Law, Joe Wiggins, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and sorrowing friends, special friends Dorethea Middlebrook, Jessie Middlebrook and Mary Maude Parker. The viewing will be 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Friday, October 18, 2019 at Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. Rick & Karon Torrance, Pastors, and from 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Coleman's Mortuary Chapel. The Homegoing Celebration will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 19, 2019 at The Lord's Temple City of Refuge, Bishop Thomas Cave III, Pastor, Elder Christopher Coleman, eulogist. The burial will be in Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Federal Point, FL.
