Obituary For Earnest Rogers Fortson

Earnest Rogers Fortson Sr., “Georgia Boy”, 80, of Hastings, was born on Tuesday, November 26, 1940 to Arthur Otis Fortson and Erma Fortson in Fayetteville, Georgia. At the age of twenty-seven he became a resident of Hastings, Florida. He was employed with David Grey Farms as an equipment operator, and later he would go on to work for Miser Marine as a Bridge Technician and Tugboat operator. After which, he went on to become a Truck Driver for many years. He would then transition into a Farm Labor Contractor and would retire after 20 years. Earnest was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. On April 5, 2021 he received his calling from the Lord to come home and rest. In addition to his parents, Earnest was preceded in eternal rest by his wife, Donetia Fortson of 43 years, brothers, Morris Fortson, Benny Fortson He leaves to cherish his memories: children, Martha I. (James) Reiley, Ernest D. (Hope) Fortson, Barbara (Darnell) Tidwell, Evelyn (Otha) Ceil, Robert L. (Shawntell) Williams, Everett B. (Renne’) Williams, Aroa D. Fortson, Earnest R. (Erica) Fortson Jr., Corey Fortson, brother, Eddie Fortson, sisters, Erma Williams, Lillian Lewis and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and devoted friends. The Fortson family will receive friends and the community from 6-7:30 p.m., on Friday, April 9, 2021 at the Felix Coleman Memorial Chapel, 308 N. Main Street, Hastings. A homegoing celebration will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at Pompey’s Temple COGIC, 611 Pompey Miller Road, in Hastings. Pastor Randall L. Chestnut is the eulogist.
