Edward Leon Braxton, who was affectionately known as Ed, was born to Monnie Braxton Sr. And Mandie Lee Braxton on June 27,1954 in Hastings, FL. Ed was a brother to 4 sisters and 4 brothers.
Ed grew up in Hasting and received his formal education in the school system of the St. John County. Ed extended his higher education through community college and university in Florida. After attending college for a couple years, he married Annette Braxton and out of the union came four children. Then he decided to dedicate his life to serve his country in the United States Navy for 20 years.
During Ed’s naval tour, he traveled the world. In Jerusalem is where Ed was baptized and accepted by our lord and savior, Jesus Christ. He settled and raised his children in Virginia Beach, where he was stationed. After retirement from the Navy, he became his own entrepreneur as a carpenter self-taught, helping many people through his skills. Brother Ed was inducted as a Mason by the St Luke Mason chapter of Portsmouth, Virginia.
Ed worked at the Post Office for 21 years. He transferred his job to work in Fort Myers, Florida; he met Wendy Lile and her son, which he took in as his stepson. They moved back to Virginia. Then back to Florida where he retired. Ed was called home by God on September 3 to rest with him.
In addition to Ed’s parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Laversa (Angel), Delores; brother, Robert John was his eldest brother, son, Shaun; nephew, Melvin, “Lil’ Man”.
Ed’s precious love and memories will be cherished by the love of his life, Wendy, (His children) Ryan, Shalisa, KaTrina Thomas, Anthony [De’shay], and lastly, Michael. (his brothers) Monnie, Ron, and Jimmy. (his sisters) Edna and Louise. (His aunts) Rosa Johns, Alberta Johnson, Ann Clinton. (His children) Ryan, Shalisa, KaTrina Thomas, Anthony [De’shay], and lastly, Michael. He has (11 grandkids): [Shaun] Shanisa, Alisha, Shaun Jr., Jaden, Taylor, [Ryan] Brooklyn, Rylann, [Shalisa] Cantrell, [Anthony] Aniya, Alayna, [Katrina] Kavanna, and Kamaris.
Lastly, when it came to helping people, Ed could not say “no”. He has a host of family and friends internationally and he will be missed.
The Braxton Family will receive extended family, friends, and community from 6:00p.m.-7:30p.m. Friday, September 9, 2022 at The Felix Coleman Memorial Chapel. The Homegoing Celebration will be 1:00p.m. Saturday, September 10, 2022 at Mt. Zion A.M.E Church of Hastings.
