Gregory Rudolph “Heavy” Johnson II was born on March 19, 1971, to Paula Johnson and Gregory Rudolph Johnson, Sr., in St. Augustine, Florida. He attended and graduated from St. Johns County schools.
In 1998, Greg married the love of his life, Cassandra “Sandy” Johnson. Through their union, they shared four beautiful children: Desiree Douglas; Raichard (Taysha) Smith; Gregory Rudolph Johnson III; and Alaina Johnson.
Greg was blessed with fourteen wonderful grandchildren, who affectionately knew him as “Papa”: Gisele, Luna, Nova, Sariyah, Kolbie, Jae’lon, Jah’meaune, Jha’niya, Jabari, Larry, Caleb, Aunisti, and Kennedy.
Greg began his career as a DJ and also worked at Walmart. He always had a deep love and passion for music. That passion led him into promotions and eventually to Square One Entertainment, where he traveled across the country producing several projects with well-known artists. Greg built strong relationships with many promoters and made a meaningful impact on the music industry. He left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered— “can’t” was not in his vocabulary.
Gregory Rudolph “Heavy” Johnson II gained his wings of gold on January 20, 2026. He was preceded in eternal rest by his maternal grandparents, Evelyn Halyard and Paul Sands, and his paternal grandparents, Rudolph and Alberta Johnson.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Cassandra “Sandy” Johnson; his four children; his fourteen grandchildren; his father, Gregory (Cina) Johnson; his mother, Paula Johnson; and many beloved family members and loved ones, including Evelyn Johnson, Vernon (Erdine) Johnson, Christopher (Dianne) Johnson, Carlton (Geneiva) Smith, Henry Smith, David (Laverne) Smith, Karen Coffey, Beatrice and Jeannie Smith, Marilyn Williams, Kimberly (Rodney) Booker, and Logenia Halyard. He is also fondly remembered by special cousins Michael Coffey Jr., Kourteney Coffey, Major Pinchback, and Staci Jackson, along with several God-children; his father-in-law, James Jackson; his sisters-in-law, Sherrill Jackson, Barbara Doughtry, Katrina Gilyard (Willie), and Kristen Smith; and his brothers-in-law, Anthony Manning (Deedra), Marcus Barber, and Silbert Johnson Jr., as well as a host of extended family members and dear friends.
