Today, we gather to remember and celebrate the life of Martin Clarke.
Martin was born on November 21, 1987, in Montego Bay, Jamaica. He was the second of nine children, growing up surrounded by a large family that shaped the caring and connected person he became.
He attended Granville Primary School and later Hendon Junior High, where he was an active member of the cricket team, a sport he truly loved. Outside of that, he also enjoyed swimming, finding joy in simple, everyday moments.
Martin was someone who naturally brought warmth into any space he entered. He had a jovial spirit and loved to make people laugh. Being around him felt easy. His kindness and caring nature showed in how he treated people, always ready with a smile or a joke to lighten the mood.
He was also someone you could count on. In his grandmother’s final years, Martin stepped in and cared for her, showing patience, compassion, and a deep sense of responsibility. That same care carried into his everyday life. He loved to clean and cook, and he found his place working as a housekeeper, where those qualities came naturally to him.
Martin’s journey took him from Jamaica to New York, and eventually to St. Augustine, where he spent his final days. No matter where he was, he remained the same person at heart, grounded, giving, and full of life.
He leaves behind his mother Junie, his father Daniel, his 3 brothers and 5 sisters, along with extended family, nieces, nephews, and many friends who will miss him deeply.
The memories we carry of Martin are filled with laughter, care, and the simple ways he showed up for others. The sound of his laughter, his helpful nature, and the way he made people feel will stay with us.
Martin will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
A Celebration of Life will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 9, 2026, at E.A. Kelley Sr. Memorial Church of God in Christ, 760 W. King St, St. Augustine, Florida
