Obituary For Queen Ester Battles

Queen Battles was born on September 14, 1961, in Palatka, Florida, to the late Lillian Ashford and the late Solomon Battles. She was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend who touched many lives through her caring nature, hardworking spirit, and generosity.
Queen graduated from Palatka High School with the Class of 1980. Following high school, she pursued a career in healthcare and became a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Her natural compassion for others was evident in her professional life and in how she cared for her family and those around her.
Queen married Curtis Lewis, and together they shared approximately 24 years of marriage. Their union was blessed with four sons, and they held a special place in her heart. She took great pride in the men they became and the families they built. Queen supported her children throughout their lives and celebrated their accomplishments, milestones, and growing families. She remained a loving and devoted mother who valued the bond she shared with each of her sons. Through her children and grandchildren, Queen leaves behind a lasting family legacy that will continue for generations to come.
Outside of her family and career, Queen enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. She loved watching sports, thrift shopping, and spending time with family and friends. She appreciated opportunities to gather with loved ones and enjoyed creating memories through everyday moments.
Most importantly, Queen was a woman of faith and attended Soul Mission Church of God in Christ in Palatka, Florida, under the leadership of Pastor Alonzo Mulberry. Her faith and connection to her church family remained an important part of her life.
On September 20, 2026, Queen peacefully transitioned from this earthly life at St. Vincent Clay County Hospital in Middleburg, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lillian Ashford and Solomon Battles Jr.; her stepfather, James Ashford; and her sisters, Veronica Jackson and Yvonne Battles.
Queen leaves to cherish her memory her four sons, Curtis (Cordelia) Lewis IV, Travis (Warnick) Lewis, Cedric (Lea) Lewis, and Lamar (Jennifer) Lewis; her grandchildren, Keyanna Lewis, Trinitee Lewis, Tyra Lewis, Curtis Lewis V, Elijah Crocker, Aaliyah Lewis, Cedric Lewis Jr., and Skylar Lewis; her sisters, Irma (Carl) Ross and Barbara (Billy) Dennard; her brother, Bruce Battles, special nieces Laquisha Battles & Destiny Lockridge and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, friends, and loved ones.

Visitation: 5:6:30 p.m., Friday, September 25, 2026, at Soul Mission Church of God in Christ, 820 N. 11th Street, Palatka, Florida

A Celebration of Life: 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Pentecostal Church of God in Christ, 624 N. 9th Street Palatka, Florida

Interment will be held in Oak Hill West
