Obituary For Walter Parker, Sr.

Walter Parnell Parker Sr. affectionately, known by his family as "Pon, "Homeboy" and "Big Walt", was born November 26th, 1945, to the late Alex Parker and Robbie Lee Wallace Parker in Carbon Hill, Alabama. Walter Transitioned this life from earth to glory for his eternal rest on April 23, 2024. He was the fourth of 7 and the last of Alex and Robbie's children. Spoiled rotten by his older sister Juanita she took and always referred to him as "Her child" or "My child" "My baby"

Walter was raised by his father Alex and his paternal grandparents, in his early years, as a child he joined the
church New Hope Missionary Baptist church in Carbon Hill, Alabama, after a few years his grandparents passed away, he later moved to Chicago to be with his mother Robbie, stepfather and siblings. So that he wouldn’t join gangs and get into trouble.

Walter went to live with his father Alex his aunt Lilah and children in Hialeah, FL which is a little City within Miami call Seminola. He then met Dale Phillips at Miami Northwestern High School and Dorsey Skill Center. During their courtship Walter was drafted to the US army, (not knowing if he would make it home alive because there was a bun in the oven and I'm sure he did everything he could to get back home safe) where he served in Vietnam, his Army MOS was Infantry.

Walter served 3 years and was discharged in 1969.
Walter became a family man that worked various jobs and sometimes 2 jobs. I can remember the Shell Gas station, Sunshine Screws and Uniroyal’s Tire King in North Miami.

In Oct 1978 our family relocated to Palm Coast where his wife Dale work for ITT. They relocated them from Miami (Doral) to Palm Coast. Being the family man, Walter worked for Palm Coast on the golf course as a ground’s keeper, Hubbard Construction for a number of years then Scott Martin construction for 20 years before retiring in 2002.

Between working and being a family man. Walter’s hobbies were playing sports he played softball before we left Miami for a team called the Streakers where they would go up-and-down Florida, and they would win so many trophies and Championships.
He then played for the Palm Coast Coasters for a few years as well as other teams, he also loved, and had a passion for fishing and crabbing and before he was ill Coquina Lane's/Palm Coast lane's.
Bowling league was tops for him, he won a lot of trophies and purses they even went to Las Vegas one year and they did well. After a few years, Walter and Dale had a passion for children so adopting children who were in need and had a right now temporary situations they stepped in and filled the void. In 2006 they receive a prestigious award of foster parents of the year. After fostering so many children and they had fallen in love with the last 3 standing and asked them if they wanted to be adopted, when it was official, they would like to change their names and at that moment, we gain 3 more siblings to our family.

Our parents also had a Bread ministry that lasted for 17 years. Waking up tireless hours to pick up and deliver baked goods to neighboring families, churches and preschools was their passion and duty as Christians.
Following Christ, our parents joined Church on the Rock in the Hammock, Fellowship of Believers in Bunnell and New Way Church of Palm Coast, where Walter was a greeter and loved his job that he would come before time to make sure all was well and with his badge on.
He loved his job as a greeter, and mom was in the choir and other auxiliaries. They loved the Lord.
His favorite pastimes and foods: riding his lawn mower. Dad loved doing his little yard work and riding the mower, tinkering in the garage, barbecuing and making hamburger patties. He also loved making salmon and mackerel croquettes grits and biscuits. A grape, watermelon cantaloupe honeydew melon didn’t have a chance with him, a variety of candies, you name it, I claim it. Sweet potato pie he loved his (Tata pies) and oh I can't forget my pastor Dr Lennie O. Gaskins, old-fashioned coconut pie.

And the Famous or Infamous Tomato (matah sammich) sandwich. He loved sports, his favorite sports team were the Miami Dolphins, and the Chiefs were a strong 2nd.

In this moment of profound loss, we find solace in the beautiful memories we share, the laughter, the tears and the countless memories that will forever be etched in our hearts. Our physical time with him is over now. We are grateful, blessed and privileged to have been his family. As we say Goodnight, let us hold onto the belief that love never dies, it simply transforms, transcending the boundaries of this earthly plane.
