Claire Marie Jernigan was born in Concord, North Carolina to the late Walter J. Moore and Rosetta Sumlin Moore. She departed this life at the age of 84, on August 10, 2025 at Robin Johnson House in Dallas, North Carolina.
She moved with her parents to New York City during the war when she was two years old. She graduated from York High School in 1959. Married Henry Jernigan and moved to Elizabeth, New Jersey and started to work for Eastern Airlines as a Reservation Agent. They had four children, Craig Jernigan, Mark Jernigan, Blake Jernigan, and Erik Jernigan.
Claire divorced in 1988 and moved to Gastonia, North Carolina where she continue to work for Eastern Airlines until they closed. She later went on to attend Gaston College where she received her degree as a Medical Office Assistant. She worked for Carolina Orthopedic for a number of years before retiring.
Claire was an avid reader. One of her favorite author was J.D. Robb. She loved to go to bingo with her friends and often went several times a week when she could. She was a member of Family Christian Center in Gastonia, North Carolina.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Jernigan, son, Erik Jernigan.
She is survived by her sons, Craig, Mark, and Blake (Tracey); sister, Sherri Fields Goines; grandchildren, Janae Jernigan, Omar Jernigan, Shawn Jernigan, Eric Jernigan, Jordan Jernigan, and Juleah Jernigan; niece and nephews, Staci Barnett (Adrian), Corey Fields (Tammie), Michael Fields (Shavonna), and Bryan Fields; a host of grand and great grand nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at Costner Funeral Home at a later date.
