Life Reflections and Memories

Mrs. Corrie Beard Edwards was born on June 29, 1939 to Edward McFrazier Beard, Sr. and Anna Bryant Beard in York County, South Carolina. She departed this earthly life on April 30, 2021 at CaroMont Regional Hospital, Gastonia, North Carolina.

She was better known as “Sis” and “Aunt Sis.” She graduated from Jefferson High School in York, South Carolina. Corrie married Arthur Edwards in 1961 and they had four children. She completed Dudley School of Cosmetology and did hair on the weekends for years. She worked as an Executive Secretary at Gallery & Lord for 23 years. Belmont Hosiery for seven years before happily; retiring. She joined Neely’s Grove AME Zion Church as an young adult and remained active for a number of years. She was also an active member of the Eastern Star Order #39 for years.

She loved her family with all her heart. You could always come to Aunt Sis’ house whether it was for temporary shelter, food or a “good size dose” of reality. She was an avid bowler and a die-hard Carolina Tarheel fan. She loved playing Spades, Biz Whiz and Tunk with family and friends.

Corrie was preceded in death by her husband Arthur Edwards, her parents Edward Sr. and Anna Beard, siblings, Viola Beard Young, James Alexander Beard, Alaine Beard Byers, Naomi Beard Hart, Arthur Lee Beard, Iva Lee Lowery, Samuel Denorise Beard, Dorothy Ann Beard, and special niece Annie Louise Glenn.

She leaves to cherish her memories four children: Mr. William Edwards of the home, Minister Ellen Clay (Charlie), Bessemer City, NC, Mrs. Michelle Mickles and Mr. Jeffery Edwards, both of Mt Holly, NC, Four siblings; Annie Beard, Minnie (Lemuel) Froneberger, both from Gastonia, NC, Grady Beard of Asheville, NC and Edward Beard Jr. of the home. Eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren who loved “Grannie” dearly, and a special niece, Betty Jean Davis. Host of nieces and nephews.

Public viewing will be Wednesday from 3:00 until 7:00 P.M. in the funeral home
