Obituary For Harris Lee Mitchell

Harris Lee Mitchell “Peekie” was born on Sunday, January 22,1956. Harris was born on a Sunday and according to a Children's poem, “Sundays Child is full of grace!” All who knew Harris will have to agree that Harris’s life was full of grace. Surrounded by those who loved him, Harris departed his earthly life on May 19, 2021 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center, Gastonia, NC.

Harris grew up in Rock Hill, SC where he is known as Peekie. It was in Rock Hill, SC where he attended public school. During Harris’s early life, he worked with his family as a farmer. After farming for many years, Harris relocated to Gastonia, NC and worked for Parkdale Mills. Harris eventually left Parkdale Mills and was employed by Darby’s Well and Drilling in Rock Hill, SC. Working for Darby’s Well and Drilling, enabled Harris to continued his relationship with his lifetime friends, the Borders family. Tommy Borders and Harris always shared a deep bond of friendship.

At an early age, Harris gave his life to Christ and joined Pineville AME Zion Church. Harris was a fun loving person who loved to entertain. He especially love spending special holidays with family and close friends. Whenever in Harris’s presence, he always made sure everyone felt welcomed and had a good time. Harris ‘s affable personality made time spent with him memorable. In addition to his parents, Harris was preceded in death by his brothers; Robert, Albert, Glenn, and Lindsay Mitchell.

Harris is survived by his wife Bessie Mae Minter Mitchell. Additional memories of his life will be cherished by his daughters; Lisa Beard (Kevin), Kevetta Clark (Jason), Tonya Mitchell; sons; Harry and Devan Mitchell; stepson Travis Minter (Kelsey); his siblings; James L. Mitchell, Annie L. Perry (Jerry), and Barbara J. Matthews (Clarence). Harris’s legacy will continue to live through 13 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and 5 step-grandchildren. Harris’s Uncle Lee Williams will continue to keep family and friends full of joy with awesome memories he created with Harris. Many nieces and nephews will remember times spent with Harris. Nephew Keith Isom will also keep Harris’ s memories alive. Harris will be remembered by all whose life he touched.
