On February 11, 2021, God called one of His brightest and most devoted angels home. Mr. James Edward Mason, Jr., 71, of Gastonia, NC, affectionately known as "Ed," transitioned from this life to the next, peacefully at CaroMont Medical Center on Thursday afternoon. He was born on July 13, 1949 in Gastonia, NC, to the late James Edward Mason, Sr. and Bessie Walker Mason. Ed was a loving husband, proud father/grandfather, and a lifetime member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc.
He was also a faithful and lifelong member of Friendship Christian Church in Gastonia, NC. Ed is survived by his lovely wife of 41 years, Mrs. Marveta Reid Mason, of the home; two daughters, Crystal Mason Richardson and her husband Jonas, of Charlotte, NC; Courtnee Mason, and her fiance' Paul Vickers, of Austell, GA; grandchildren, Carson Richardson and Emersyn Richardson; one brother, Horace "Tony" Mason (Annette), of Detroit, Michigan; his beloved dog-son, "Ali" and grand-dog, "Sydney." He also survived by two aunts; Earlene Benton and Cynthia Dunlap of Winston-Salem, NC and six godchildren: Mr. Al Holland, Jr. of Tampa, FL, Mrs. Evette Givens of Austell, GA, Mrs. Ashlee Holland of Atlanta, GA, Mrs. Adrienne Bynum of Fort Mill, SC, Mrs. Mandy Patton of Gastonia, NC, Ms. Victoria Reid of Spring, TX, as well as a host of adoring nieces and nephews.
Ed attended Highland High School and graduated from Ashley High School. He received his Associates in Arts Degree from Gaston College and received his Agricultural and Engineering Degree from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.
A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered.
