LaToya Michelle Setzer-Williams was born on June 23, 1978 to Apostle James and Clista B. Setzer in Gastonia, North Carolina. She was called home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 20, at CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, North Carolina. Her death was not Covid Related.
LaToya was a 1996 Hunter Huss High School graduate. She was a member of the Marching Band, Beta Club, and Allied Health. LaToya was a charter and dedicated member of Deliverance Christian Center where she was an early child singer of the Setzer Family and the Heavenly Voices. She was formerly on the Praise Team and Church Clerk.
LaToya worked professionally at Park Dansan, and NCO Financial & Citi Group. Her last employer was Wells Fargo until her health declined. LaToya married the Love of her life, Clifton “Kookie’ Williams June 5, 2010. She loved being married and looked forward to being a mother. On December 5, 2014, she birthed her only child, Journee Faith Williams against the orders of medical science. She loved to call Journee “My Puddo” and Kookie calls her Sugar Boo.” She has loved this adventure of marriage and motherhood.
LaToya always smiled even when her body was not well. She and her brother James and her sister Tamaica had an unbreakable bond in life. She was a witness for the Lord Jesus Christ through life concerning his Grace, Mercy, Healing, and Deliverance. The love of God was evidence in her life as she went about her daily activities. Her parents brought them up on the love, fear and reverence of God. She loved to tell you “I love you.” She wanted the world to know that she was; “The One and Only Mrs. Kookie Williams Journee’s Mom.”
LaToya leaves to cherish fond memories her husband, Clifton Williams; parents, Apostle James L. and Clista B. Setzer; one daughter, Journee Faith Love Williams; one brother, James Setzer, Jr. (Angela); one sister, Tamica Nelson (Rev. Fred Nelson, Jr.); 6 stepchildren, 4 step grandchildren, goddaughter; Janet Lewis; father and mother-in-law, Ernest and Faye Adams; brother-in-law, Marlon McCleave (Chasity); sister-in-law, Africa Pagan; godsisters, Jennifer C. Butler and Rayqwanda Williams. She also leaves a host of other relatives, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and dear friends. Endeared to her heart, were best friends, Latonya M. Campbell, Shawn Witcher, Shanda Watson, Anette Davis, and lifelong best friend, Sharitha Grant; special nieces and nephews, James Setzer (Angelita), Jala, Fred Nelson, III, and Kameron Nelson.
Funeral Arrangement:
Mask required - A private funeral service will be held on Friday, July 24, 2020 at Tabernacle Baptist Church, Gastonia. A public viewing will be at Costner Funeral Home on Thursday, July 23, 2020 from 1:00 until 9:00 pm.

It is with the deepest sympathies that I write this condolence to my sister. I miss you so much Latoya and the entire Setzer family. You all have always treated me like family since the days of Northwoods. I will miss you sis, and I understand that you are in a better place. Just know you have made a mark on this world and in my life that will never be be erased. I thank God for the time with you and will continue to pray for the entire Setzer family.

My prayers are with your family currently. Please accept my sincere condolences. I just spoke with Latoya a few weeks ago as we did frequently. Shes always been a very beautiful soul to my family. The love she gave and showed to me was incredible and I am very fortunate to have a wonderful friend like Latoya. I will never forget her kindness during my time of need. You will forever live in my heart each day. As she told me after many conversations over the phone I love you Jen, she truly meant every word. I will miss your motivation speeches dearly.
