Obituary For Bernice Quarterman Ponder

Bernice Quarterman Ponder, Louisville, GA departed this life April 16, 2020 in Louisville, GA. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at Chor DeLeon Society Cemetery, 8th Street, Louisville, GA. Viewing will be held Tuesday from 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. at Davis Funeral Home. Bernice was born to the parentage of the late Mamie Murray and Willie Quarterman, Sr. She completed school at Jefferson County High in 1966. She attended college in St. Petersburg, Florida and Sandersville Tech where she earned a certificate in accounting. Bernice was employed at Wadley Shirt Factory/Oxford for 25+ years. She also worked at the Huddle House in Louisville where she was loved. Before her health began to fail her, she was a dedicated employee of Jefferson County Library System. Early in life Ms. Ponder chose Greater St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church as her spiritual family. Along with her parents. Bernice is preceded in death by sisters Tiny Ella Mae Quarterman and Barbara Jean Cutler and brothers Kenneth Quarterman and Ellis Freeman. Bernice leaves to cherish her memories her stepmom, who raised her as her very own, Myrtis Quarterman of Louisville, GA: two loving daughters, Sonji (Morris) Lockhart and Chrishon Ponder both of Louisville, GA; sisters, Gwinette Lewis, Clayton, California, Varetta Bigham and Cassandra (Henry) Burse of Augusta, GA, Karen Foley and Lonnie Hines of Louisville, GA; brothers, Leon (Sharon) Davis, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Barry Hines, Wrens, Ga and Willie Quarterman, Jr., Augusta, GA: her aunts and uncles, Mattie Bell of Wadley, GA, Tommy (Constance) Palmer of Hephzibah, GA, Willie Albert (Shirley) Palmer, Virginia and Earnest Jenkins of Burke County; devoted grandchildren, Thomas Cunningham, NaStarsha Brown, Curteshia (Asanti) Brown, Morques Lockhart, and NaToia Brown; a nephew, Antwan McGruder, that she assisted in rearing and great grandchildren Jamal Cunningham, Ariana, Arielle, Imani Brown, and several loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Davis Funeral Home, 725 Beech Street is in charge of arrangements for Ms. Bernice Quarterman Ponder.
