A bouncing baby girl was born to Essie B. Gilmore in Wadley, GA. on Dec. 19, 1945. Essie named her Darlene Marie.
Darlene made her transition to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at her residence.
Homegoing Celebrating will be held Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. at Brinson Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. David Kemp officiating. Interment will be held in the Brinson Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
Darlene bought much joy and laughter to the family. She attended the public schools in Wadley, GA and later moved New York. This is where she pursued her passion for loving and caring for others. She spent many years at Bellview Hospital in Manhattan, N.Y. along with private duty nursing with Nancy Kiss in Atlantic Beach.
Darlene never forgot her upbringing. She found a church home at William Temple Pentecostal Church. On May 1st, 1994 she became a licensed Evangelist when she received her licenses from Saint Augustine Theological Institute.
Darlene was married to the now late Clinton Freeman. After his demise she was met with her children and lonely days. Later in life she met and married Claude Dowden, III. They lived in New York until January 2014. At that time they returned to Wadley, GA. where they united with the Brinson Hill Baptist Church Family. In 2021 he also made his transition.
Darlene is also preceded in death by: two children, Jacqueline Freeman and Melissa Freeman, one grandson, Anthony F. Freeman.
She leaves sweet memories in the hearts and minds of her children: Maurice (Becky) Freeman, Pennsylvania, Lavon Ricks, Augusta, GA, Juliet (Zachary) Carmichael, Wadley, GA, Beverly Williams, Staten Island, NY; her siblings: Orangio Eleanor Rembert, Richard (Annette) Gilmore and Rufus "Buddy" Walden, Wadley, GA, Cubie Grier, Daytona Beach, GA; her grandchildren: Kamel Freeman, Maurice Freeman, Brooklyn Freeman, Brielle Freeman, Braxton Freeman, Kyle Ricks, Lakeila Laster, Lateria Laster, Tommy Ricks; great-grandchildren: Anthony Freeman, II, Aniya Freeman, Tykera Laster, Jacqueline Laster and Isaiah Freeman; her godchildren: Kimberly Strothers, Crystal Johnson, Theresa Keene, Tabitha Dickson, Diane Gaines, Stacey L. Williams and Demetria Walker; several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
