A servant of God, a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend to many, Dora Louise Perry departed this earthly life on September 23, 2024, surrounded in love at home in Suwanee, Georgia. Dora was born to the parentage of Willie and Christine Johnson March 21, 1953, in Folkston, Georgia.
She graduated from Charlton County schools where she was a member of one of the first integrated classes. Following in the footsteps of her dear sister, Carol Wortham, Dora moved to Syracuse, New York in her late teens. Shortly after migrating north, Dora was hired into the insurance industry where she took on roles of increasing responsibilities and earned her Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter certification.
Dora was a model of selflessness and kindness, always willing to serve whether it was delivering the word of God at an event or volunteering to support those less fortunate, she was willing. Dora’s spirit of service, extended to her membership at Second Olivet Missionary Baptist Church. She also, as a Christian, served in many capacities over the years, including:
President: Young Matrons of Southern MBC, Women's Departments of New Morning Star MBC, Prince of Peace MBC and Northeastern District Baptist Association;
Trustee: Prince of Peace MBC, Second Olivet MBC;
Correspondence Secretary: Women’s Auxiliary -Empire Baptist Missionary State Convention;
Area Vice President: Women's Auxiliary- Northeastern District Baptist Convention.
While a faithful servant of God and her community, Dora's pride and joy was her family. She doted on her grandchildren Quinn and Amir and even in her final days referred to them as her babies. Her warm hugs and comforting words made every moment they spent with her a cherished memory. She had an incredible gift for making them and everyone around her feel special and valued.
Dora was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Christine Johnson and two brothers, Larry Johnson and Ralph Johnson.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories: her loving daughter, Aisha Wakely (Lee) Hannah of Suwanee, GA; grandchildren, Quinn Wakely Davis and Amir Rogers both of Suwanee, GA, Kyzer Hannah of Blythewood, SC; siblings, Carol Ann (George) Wortham of Syracuse, NY, Lonnie Johnson of Folkston, GA, Johnnie Johnson of Falls Church, Virginia; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including her special prayer partners, My Sister’s Keepers.
