Dr. Roy A. Jackson transitioned from labor to reward on July 25, 2021 at University Hospital, Augusta, Georgia. Graveside services will be held Saturday, July 31, 2021 at 10:00 A.M. at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, 5727 US Highway 1 North, Louisville, GA with Military Honors. The family ask If you have a touch of Orange or Royal Blue you are welcome to wear it. Viewing will be held Friday from 1:00 β 4:00 P.M. at Davis Funeral Home, Louisville, GA and at Bethel A.M.E. Church, Augusta, GA from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. Dr. Roy Alonza Jackson, was born on Butts Street in Wadley, GA. to Mrs. Mary Jackson Latimore. His Grandmother Mrs. Lula J. Smith took custody of him and raised him with a focus on the church and education. His early training and education began in St. Mark Church with the Easter Program, Sunday School, Sunday School Convention, and ACE League. Dr. Jackson was born in poverty, but refused to let it keep him from being successful. He had a BS Degree in Sociology from Savannah State University, a Master of Education in Political Science from Savannah State Colleges, and a PHD in Political Science from Howard University. His dissertation was titled βRegistration and Party Affiliation: A Case Study of Black Floridians. He is a Veteran of the U.S. Army with service in Vietnam and South Korea. His rank after 2 years was Sergeant E-5. Dr. Roy A. Jackson received numerous awards. Among them are: Whoβs Who in American Colleges and Universities, Savannah State College Man of The Year, Savannah State College Student of The Year, Outstanding Young Men of America, Chatham County Public Schools Award, Savannah Chapter and Savannah State College National Alumni Association Alumnus of The Year, and Outstanding Graduate Student in Political Science. Dr. Roy Jackson retired from Savannah State University where he served in many capacities including: Assistant Dean of Students, Dean of Students, Admissions Counselor, and Director of Admissions. He affiliated with the following organizations: Life Member NAACP, Life Member Savannah State University National Alumni Association, Member Gamma Kappa Chapter Pi Sigma Alpha National Political Science Honor Society, Member Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Charter Member Savannah-Chatham Optimist Club, Member Purple Hearts Club, and a 32nd Degree Prince Hall Mason. Dr. Roy A. Jackson was a member of Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Augusta, Georgia where he served on the Trustee Board, Director of the Vacation Bible School, President of the Sons of Allen, member of the Christian Education Commission, and a member of the Larry Hudson Male Usher Board. Also, he was Co-Director of Christian Education for the Augusta Conference of the Sixth Episcopal District. He leaves to cherish his memories: his loving wife of 46 years, Dianne B.
