Ella Luecile Walker Hankerson was born on November 12, 1944, in Jefferson County, Georgia, to the late Harry Walker, Sr and Luella Williams Walker. She peacefully departed this life on May 21, 2026, at an Augusta hospital, surrounded by the love and memories of a life well lived.
A Celebration of Life Service honoring Ella Luecile Walker Hankerson will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 2:00 P.M. at the Roberson Grove Baptist Church, 985 GA Highway 24 West, Waynesboro, GA. Interment will follow at the Spring Bethel Benevolent Society Cemetery, 10930 Middleground Road Louisville, GA. Public viewing will be held Friday, May 29, 2026 from 3:00 – 6:00 P.M. at Davis Funeral Home.
Ella was a devoted homemaker who dedicated her life to caring for her family with love, compassion, and unwavering support. She found great joy in nurturing those around her and creating a home filled with warmth and comfort. In addition to her love for family, Ella was a faithful servant of the Lord. At an early age she joined the Christian family at the Spring Bethel A.M.E. Church. She was also a faith member of the Spring Bethel Benevolent Society. Her kind spirit, gentle heart, and quiet strength touched the lives of many who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents; siblings: Harry Walker, Jr., Nellie Frances Jackson, Asa Walker, Hattie Bell Walker, Wilimena Thomas and Mabel Carter; two daughters: Mary Eunice Walker and Paula Hankerson; grand-daughter: LaQuanda Drayton; two great-grandchildren: Marquise Walker and Da’Quantavious Proctor.
Ella Lucielle Walker Hankerson leaves to cherish her precious memories her children: Jacqueline Hankerson of Waynesboro, Georgia, Charles (Alvetta) Hankerson of Blythe, Georgia, and LaToshia (Jerome) Gilmore of Waynesboro, Georgia; her sisters: Essie (Rev. Honora) Lewis of Wrens, Georgia, Mozella Walker of Louisville, Georgia, Eunice Devero of Louisville, Georgia; She also leaves behind a loving legacy through her 21 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren, along with a host of other relatives and friends including one, Carlos Proctor who always took time for her care.
Active Pallbearers will be Roshaun Walker, Quatrail Walker, Cortez Hankerson, Ro’marien Drayton, Jerome Gilmore, Roc’Quana Drayton and Charles Green.
