Obituary For Honsberry Batts, Jr.

Mr. Honsberry Batts Jr. was born on April 12, 1933, to the parentage of Honsberry Batts Sr. and Lucille Evans Batts. From the very beginning of his life, he was grounded in faith, family, and hard work—values that guided him for more than nine decades. After being blessed with 92 years of life, Mr. Batts peacefully entered eternal rest on February 2, 2026, at Comfort Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Wadley, Georgia, following a natural transition.

Public Viewing will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home, located at 725 Beech Street, Louisville, Georgia.

A Celebration of Life Service honoring the legacy of Mr. Batts will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the James and Virginia Davis Chapel, located at 727 Beech Street, Louisville, Georgia 30434. Interment will follow at Peel Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, located at 292 South College Street, Vidette, Georgia.

At an early age, Mr. Batts united with Peel Grove Baptist Church, where he remained a devoted and lifelong member. His faith was an important part of his daily life and helped shape the man he became—humble, dependable, and deeply rooted in his community.

Mr. Batts dedicated many years of service as a logger with Hodges Logging Company, a profession that required strength, perseverance, and resilience. He was known for his strong work ethic and commitment to providing for his family. Through his labor, he exemplified responsibility, determination, and pride in honest work.

Outside of his professional life, Honsberry was known for his joyful spirit and love for life. He thoroughly enjoyed fishing and dancing, and his sense of humor was one of his most cherished traits. He had a natural ability to make others laugh and feel at ease, earning him a reputation as the family comedian. His favorite pastime was raccoon hunting, an activity he loved deeply and through which he formed lasting bonds with family and friends. He was affectionately known as “Coon June,” a nickname that will forever bring smiles and fond memories to those who knew him best.

Honsberry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and patriarch whose presence will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Margarite Mack Batts; his brother, Horace Batts Sr.; his daughter, Patricia Houston; and his son, Willie Huntley.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved children: Jerry (Carrie) Mack of Waynesboro, GA; Honsberry Batts III of Port St. Lucie, FL; Bishop David L. (Elaine) Mack of Port St. Lucie, FL; John (Marie) Walden of Stapleton, GA; Hansberry Batts of Louisville, GA; Donna Black of Louisville, KY; Cora Johnson of Fort Lauderdale, FL; Mammie Batts of West Palm Beach, FL; Mattie Belle Batts of Louisville, GA; and Ida Belle Batts (Kenny Gilmore) of Louisville, GA.

He is also survived by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and lifelong friends, all of whom were touched by his wisdom, humor, and enduring love.
