Mrs. Mary Frances Wells Thompson, a beloved matriarch and cherished member of the community, was born in Avera, Georgia, on January 20, 1934, to the late Homie Wells and Louise Wells. Her earthly journey ended peacefully at her residence on December 15, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Mary Frances was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Tommy Thompson; her parents, Homie and Louise Wells; one son, Ozark Wells; one daughter, Glennis Thompson Boyd; her sisters, Bessie Louis Wells Brown and Cora Lee Wells; and two sons-in-law, Frank Boyd and Hanson Harris Sr.
She received her education in the Jefferson County School System, graduating from Jefferson County Training School in1952. At an early age, she was baptized at Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church. Throughout her life, she was a dedicated and hardworking woman, retiring from both the Thomson Manufacturing Company and the Jefferson Reporter. In her later years, she enjoyed spending time at the Jefferson County Leisure Center, where she shared joy and laughter with friends and family.
Above all, she was a devoted daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, who held her family close to her heart. She was the matriarch of her family, offering wisdom, love, and guidance to those who knew her. Her warm, inviting spirit and unwavering support left a lasting impact on everyone she encountered. Sunday dinners at Mary Frances’ home became a cherished tradition, creating beautiful memories that will be passed down through generations.
Mary Frances leaves behind a loving family that will forever treasure her memory. She is survived by her daughters: Jeannette (Harold) Thompson, Louisville; Annie Harris, Ellenwood; and a stepson: Roger Thompson, Atlanta.
Additionally, she is survived by her aunt Suluer Wells, Louisville, GA; her sister-in-law, Elizabeth Kindell, Atlanta, Ga; her daughter-in-law, Gladys Crawford Wells, Decatur, GA. She was a cherished godmother to Ruby Lane, Gladys Wells, William Woodrow Wells Sr, and Ralph Thompson .
Her beloved grandchildren include: Princel Boyd, Louisville, GA; Cedric Thompson, Ellenwood, GA; Keyla Thompson, La Plata, MD; Falicia Boyd, Louisville, GA; Jennifer Wells, Atlanta, GA; Jeffery (Tiana) Wells, Stockbridge, GA; Breanna (Latavian) Brown,
Grovetown, GA; Ivy Harris and Hanson Harris, Jr., Ellenwood, GA.
She is also survived by twenty great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, all of whom she held dear.
Mary was lovingly cared for by Abigail McBride, whose compassion and dedication brought comfort to Mary Frances in her final days.
Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed for her warmth, kindness, and the joy she brought to her family. May she rest in peace, reunited with those she loved and who went before her, as her spirit continues to guide and comfort those she leaves behind.
Mary Frances’ love will live on through her family’s memories, and her spirit will continue to inspire all those who were touched by her remarkable life.
