Obituary For Mother Martha Cuyler Harmon

Mother Martha Deacon Harmon was born on January 23, 1927, in Jefferson County, Georgia, to the late Noah and Estelle Cuyler Deacon. On June 7, 2026, she peacefully departed this life, leaving behind a legacy of faith, service, love, and devotion to family. Having lived a remarkable 99 years, Mother Martha touched countless lives through her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to helping others.

Celebration of Life Services will be held Saturday, June 13, 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Pierce Grove Baptist Church located at 3673 Bostic Mill Road, Bartow, Georgia 30413. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Family will receive friends Friday, June 12, 2026 from 4:00-6:00 P.M. during the public viewing.

Mother Martha was a lifelong resident of the Bartow and Louisville communities, where she was known and loved by many. She possessed a warm and welcoming spirit and truly never met a stranger. Blessed with a sharp mind and an inquisitive nature, she remained actively engaged in the lives of her family, friends, and community throughout her life. Whether offering advice, encouragement, or simply a listening ear, Mother Martha found joy in helping people of all ages.

A faithful servant of God, Mother Martha joined Pierce Grove Baptist Church at an early age and remained a dedicated member for more than 60 years. Throughout her years of service, she faithfully worked in various capacities, including serving as a Deaconess and a member of the choir. Her commitment to the ministry and her church family reflected the depth of her faith and her desire to honor God through service. She eventually became the church's oldest member, a distinction that reflected her lifelong dedication and steadfast devotion.

Mother Martha was also known for her many talents and gifts. An exceptional cook, she became famous throughout the community for her delicious meals. Family and friends especially looked forward to enjoying her turkey and dressing, baked chicken, collard greens, and sweet potato pies. Her kitchen was a gathering place filled with love, laughter, and fellowship. In addition to cooking, she enjoyed gardening, crocheting, and quilting, creating treasured items and memories that will be cherished for generations.

Her leadership extended beyond the church into the community. She proudly served as President of the Senior Center for more than two years and was honored as Queen during her time there. She enjoyed staying active, building friendships, and serving as a positive influence to those around her. Although she never learned to drive, she always found a way to get where she needed to go and remained independent and involved throughout her life.

Above all, Mother Martha was devoted to her family. As the proud mother of twelve children, she dedicated her life to nurturing, guiding, and supporting her family. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family. She was blessed to witness multiple generations of her family grow and flourish, creating a legacy of love that will continue for years to come.

Mother Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Noah and Ester Cuyler Deacon; her beloved husband, Deacon Charles Harmon; her sisters, Mary Floyd and Estella Holloway; her daughter, Deaconess Janie Jackson; her son, Donnell Harmon; and her grandchildren, Kelly Harris Staple and Jerome Jackson.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories and continue her legacy of love her devoted children: Carolyn Tanksley, Frances Harmon, Denise Mapp (Carroll), Charles Harmon, Ray Harmon (Valerie), Debra Harris (Kenneth), Martha Janet Blocker (Willie), John Harmon, Mary Harmon, and Kateena Hayes (Robert).

She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren: Clarence Jackson (Tawana), Jamie Jackson (Dana), Rodney McKinney (Sheila), Jerome Tanksley (Hannah), Tameika Reynaud (Austin), Caroline Mapp, Amber Harris, Chartina Harmon, Imani Harmon, Raymon Harmon (Natshia), and Jerome Jackson Jr.; and her bonus grandson, Jerome Neal.

Her treasured great-grandchildren include Clarence Jackson Jr., Myles Jackson, Melany Jackson, Zion Harmon, Isaiah Harmon, Abigail Harmon, Alexander Harmon, Eliana Harmon, Valerie Harmon, Kailyn Tanksley, Hunter Tanksley, and Natalya Tanksley.

In addition, she leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, church family, dear friends, neighbors, and loved ones who will forever cherish the many wonderful memories they shared with her.

Though her physical presence will be greatly missed, the love, wisdom, faith, and compassion that Mother Martha Harmon shared throughout her 99 years will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Her legacy is one of service, devotion to family, commitment to community, and unwavering faith in God—a legacy that will endure for generations to come.
