Obituary For Mrs. Lonnie "Lottie" Wicker Thomas

Lottie is the 8th child of 12 children born unto the late Alonzo Wicker and Mary Lizzie Gladden Wicker, Davisboro, Georgia.

She attended Washington County School system and although she was unable to finish, her knowledge and wisdom was impeccable. She was a very hard and dedicated worker, which she instilled this legacy in her own children. She worked as a Nursing Assistant at Old Capital Inn, Louisville, Georgia, then became the Supervisor of Housekeeping for several years while working there. After that, she took a better paying job at Jefferson County Hospital as the Lead Housekeeper, until she retired in March 1999.

She married Walter E. Thomas, Sr. on August 6, 1968 and they had four (4) children. She joined Shiloh CME Church (Davisboro, GA) at an early age; where she served in many capacities: Church building Programs coordinator, Pastor’s Aide organizers. She later joined Ebenezer CME Church (Bartow, GA), to be with her husband, which now is Faith Memorial Church (Bartow, GA). She loved attending church on a regular until the start of COVID-19. Lottie served as the President for Clark/Wicker/Hayles Family reunions. She will also be remembered as someone who spoke her mind and being a strong will person.

One of thing she is known for are the INFAMOUS little biscuits. One pan holds about 100, just to give you an idea and she made two pans at a time. We would get together and have a feast laughing and having fun. She loved playing cards, which she taught her grandchildren how to play. Lottie and Walter opened their home to so many relatives and friends. They will never forget the hospitality and those infamous biscuits. She also loved scratching lottery tickets. She was the rock of the Wicker family. She wore her suits, hats, and accessories in style. She loved dressing up for any event. Lottie was a classy lady.

She is preceded in death of oldest daughter: Connie Thomas; grandson: Calvin Young; great granddaughter: Amariyah Myers; 1st daughter-n-law: Joanne Samples Thomas; Siblings: Tressie Lee Wicker Kitchens, Alonzo Wicker, Jr., Leroy Wicker, Sr., Elizabeth Wicker Little, Billy Wicker, Richard Wicker, Mary Jane Wicker Washington, Willie James Wicker, John Judson Wicker, Sr.

Survived by her husband of 52 years, Walter E. Thomas, Sr.; daughter, Annette Thomas Young (Fort Worth, TX); two sons: Darryl (Kimberly) Thomas, Sr. (Jacksonville, NC); Walter (Sharon) Thomas, Jr. (Davisboro, GA); grandchildren: Alicia (Johnny, IV) Young Myers (Keller, TX); Anthony Young (Anchorage, Alaska); DeVonte’(Gina)Young (Omaha, NE); DeSanto (Precious) Samples (Conyers, GA); Darryl Thomas, Jr. (Jacksonville, NC); MyEsha Thomas (Jacksonville, NC); Sharonica Thomas (Augusta, GA); Dominique Thomas (Louisville, GA); DeVonte’, Jr. (baby on way – June, Omaha, NE); Step grandchildren: Faith Johnson; Shytianna Taylor, Shakirah Taylor, and Shaniqua Taylor (Jacksonville, NC) Great grandchildren: Jayla Myers and Jordyn Myers (Keller, TX); Saniiyah Samples, Dominic Samples, and Alannah Samples (Conyers, GA); Step great grandchildren: Madison Taylor, Mariah Taylor, Noah McGee (Jacksonville, NC)

She leaves hundreds of devoted nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends to mourn her death.

Lottie departed this life knowing she was loved so much. She will ever be in our hearts. The pain is great and there are no words to describe how the family is feeling.

Churchyard services will be held Saturday, January 23, 2021 at 3:00 P.M. at Faith Memorial C.M.E. Church, Wadley, GA. Burial will be held in Ebenezer Cemetery, Bartow, GA. MASK AND SOCIAL DISTANCING REQUIRED,
