...And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." Therefore most gladly I would rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ's sake, for when I am weak, then I am strong (II Corinthians 12:9-10)
Friday, May 21, 1954, a pretty girl was born to Susie Hinkins. This girl, named Patricia Ann was nurtured and attended to by Charlotte and John Hinkins with love, joy, grace, gentleness and strength. This up-bringing prepared her for a role that she would accept with love and gentleness. Upon the death of her aunt Mat, she would assume the role of "mother" to a two year old girl and a baby boy at the tender age of seventeen. A role that she gave her all to ensure that she gave her all. This role prepared her for what would become her life's work.
Patricia became a model teacher and spent her entire teaching career at Carver Elementary School in Wadley where she attended school. She retired after 34 years of service nurturing many students with love, gentleness and joy.
She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church where she served in many capacities to build and strengthen the church and its people. She was a Deaconess, Vacation Bible School teacher, Missionary, Kitchin committee chair, Program committee and spear-headed the purchase and planning for the now First Baptist Church Cemetery. She worked tirelessly as she did with everything.
Patricia attended Carver Elementary School completing 8th grade. She graduated from Wadley High School in 1972 and Savannah State College now University majoring in Elementary Education in 1978. Her early responsibilities and education prepared her for her role as a pillar of strength for the community.
As she continued her journey she met an intriguing young man, Isaac Mountain, Jr., and, on June 19, 1985 they were married. This year they celebrated 39 years of marriage. Their union was blessed with two children, Isaac (Trey) Mountain, III and Alia Brittany Mountain, whom she loved dearly. Her love for her "children" was like no other ensuring that they had everything.
Patricia had a great love for music and art. She played the clarinet like no other participating in the marching band in high school and at Savannah State. There were days when she was like a "Summer Breeze" her favorite song. And, there were days when she would sing along when she heard "What A Friend We Have in Jesus" or "Jesus, You're the Center of My Joy" with heart-felt joy.
She followed the family legacy becoming a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. in the Spring of 1975 at Savannah State. Upon returning home to teach she worked with a group of interested ladies and became a charter member of Nu Upsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc continuing the work of the sorority.
Her greatest achievement was the lives she touched in her family, school and community leaving a legacy of hope, love, joy and peace. She reveled in the joy of seeing the lives that she touched become successful, especially that little girl and baby boy whose life she touched at such an early age.
On Monday, October 14, 2024, she quietly and peacefully answered her Master's call.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Susie Robinson, Charlotte and John Hinkins who raised her, her aunt, Mattie Virginia Hinkins whose children she nurtured and cared for, and her brother, Charles Mann.
