Obituary For Roycie Ann Holmes

Ms. Roycie Ann Holmes was born on June 18, 1959 to the late Charlie and Hattie Mae Holmes in Bartow, Georgia. She was known to others as Roxanne, Roxy, or Roy. Roycie transitioned peacefully to be with her parents once more in the comfort of her daughter’s home on August 1, 2024.

Public viewing will be held Tuesday, August 6, 2024, from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home, located at 725 Beech Street, Louisville, GA.

Homegoing celebration will be held Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Salter Grove Baptist Church, located at 21387 GA Highway 242, Bartow, GA.

Interment will be held in the Blounts Chapel Cemetery, located at 6989 Highway 319 South, Bartow, GA.

At a young age, Roycie gave her life to Christ, joining Blount’s Chapel AME Church with her sister Mary and mother. Education was important to her. She graduated from Wadley High School Class of 1977. A few years afterward, she joined the Army and attended United States Army Military Police School graduating on September 6, 1979 in Fort McClellan, Alabama.

Roycie was a Jack of all trades. She held many positions during her lifetime: Jet Food Store #21, Bartow, Georgia, Army Airforce Post Exchange (Cashier Teller), Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, Military Police, Jet Food Store #16-(Assistant Manager) Wrens, Georgia, American Yard Product-(Assemble Line Worker)- Swainsboro, Georgia, Crider Poultry, Inc. (Shipping Clerk…Shipping and Receiving Supervisor), Stillmore, Georgia, Mel’s Mart (Cashier), Louisville, Georgia. A true soldier indeed for 12 years. During her time, she was awarded the Marksman Badge with M-16 Rifle Bar; Sharpshooter Badge with hand grenade bar; Army service ribbon, Expert badge with .38 caliber pistol bar; and Overseas service ribbon.

In lieu of holding many positions, she was a big sister to Mary Ann Holmes Morgan-Bartow, Georgia. People would always confuse them for one another. They grew up together with both parents, but Roycie was a momma’s girl while Mary was a daddy’s girl.

Roycie enjoyed nature and everything it included. Fishing became a hobby of hers. Gardening was also a favorite. She was the mother of flowers. Her green thumb was a work of art. Roycie loved animals too, particularly dogs.

Her legacy will continue with her two sons Antonia (Shontersa) Holmes, Sr. of Louisville, Georgia, Henry (Chelsea) Jones, III of Jackson, Michigan and one daughter Dr. Ke’Kenyette (Kenneth, Jr.) Heath of Hephzibah, Georgia. She is also survived by her “Niecy,” Kayonna Gilmore of Bartow, Georgia. She leaves behind two caring sisters: Mary Holmes Morgan of Bartow, Georgia and Ella Brown of Louisville, Georgia. In addition, she is remembered by her three Aunts: Rosa Kitchens of Bartow, Georgia, Sarah Kitchens of Wadley, Georgia, and Geraldine Holmes of Bartow, Georgia. She thought the world of her grandchildren: Santonyo Holmes, She’rod Holmes, Shaniya Hall, Antonia Holmes, Jr., Cameron Holmes, A’tonia Holmes, Kenneth Heath, III, Ajalya Jones, Xavian Jones, Henry Hicks, Brookyln Jones, and William Jones. Four great grandchildren: Alani Holmes, Averi Holmes, A’hari Embury, and A’maiira Embury; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
