Obituary For Selma Dixon

On October 12, 1920, the parents and two older brothers celebrated the birth and introduced to all SELMA ALBERTA GREEN, the daughter of Anderson ‘Anthony’ Green and Lela Gillis-Green of Soperton, Georgia. There were six other kids to follow.

Memorial services for Mrs. Selma will be held Saturday, April 27, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at James and Virginia Davis Chapel, 727 Beech Street, Louisville, GA.

Yes, Selma was a sweet 103 years young and spunky as ever. Don’t believe it, check the State of Georgia Vital Records which can corroborate this claim.

May 16, 1946, two lives became one as Selma became the wife of Robert Dixon in Lyons, Georgia. As there weren’t any children born in this union, there was one raised as their own, James.

Selma lived a simple life and sometimes off the grid. She previously resided in the Sunshine State of Florida as well as the great Peach State of Georgia. Miami and Vidalia were her stomping grounds prior to relocating to Louisville, Georgia in October of 2021.

Although there’s no buildings named after her nor monuments erected in her honor, she was well known by many in Vidalia. She walked everywhere she needed to go, being very precarious about accepting a ride from anyone. On her walking journeys, she was out and about in the morning by 10 o’clock and back home before dusk. Catch her if you can!!!

Selma was a caregiver of the young and the elderly along with being a domestic servant over the years. She was passionate about volunteering at the local Salvation Army sorting donations and ‘chewing the fat’. Her favorite volunteering event was the Red Kettle Campaign during the Christmas season. She enjoyed ringing the bell in Vidalia. She would say, “Always put something in the kettle even if it is nothing more than a dollar.”

Her move to Louisville, Georgia was a delight for her niece, Leila McCall. Can’t leave out Elijah, that relationship was one of its own – full of laughter between the two. After her move, she made it known that she loved Ice T, not the beverage but the rapper/actor. Her words, “Ice T is my man” and TNT was her channel 24/7.

There came the time for her move to Keysville where she flourished in the surroundings of peers. The staff nor the residents of Keysville Nursing Home knew what they were about to encounter when Selma Alberta Dixon arrived in 2022. Oh, let’s not forget about the many families that became her friends too. There were two topics of conversation (1) The Branch and (2) What it took to live to be 100 plus years? They messed around and crowned her as the Valentine Queen in 2023 and she made it known at every opportunity, “I’m the Queen”. Selma just knew she was a celebrity; she was featured on the jumbo screen at the Green Jacket’s baseball game twice. What a celebration they had for her 103rd birthday, another crown! Keysville Nursing Home family (staff, residents, and families) made her last days some of her best days.

Selma was predeceased by her parents, husband, son, and 8 siblings. She passes the torch of life and love on to her beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends to fill her shoes of living life to the fullest. She has received her forever crown.

Davis Funeral Home, 725 Beech Street is in charge of arrangements for Ms. Selma Dixon.
