Obituary For Velma Rogers

Velma Rea Turner Roger was born on November 7, 1934 to the parentage of Willie A. Jackson and Millard Lee Turner of Wadley, Georgia, in Jefferson County. Velma received her education from Carver High School and graduated in 1953. She departed this life, February 13, 2021 at her residence in Wadley.

Funeral Services will be Thursday, February 25, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. at Forrest Lawn Memorial Gardens Central in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl.

Early in life, she joined San Clair Missionary Baptist Church and maintained her membership until relocating to St. Augustine, Florida. There, she met and married George Williams Sr. and moved to Winter Park, Florida. Three years later, she moved to Ft. Lauderdale, FL where she met and married Willie D. Rogers for 46 years. She joined New Bethel Primitive Baptist Church in 1971 under the leadership of Elder L.V. Hobbs. She joined and served faithfully on the Usher Board #2, the Deaconess Board, and The Community Member Prayer Band. She was employed by the Broward County Board of Education and worked as a school bus monitor until she retired. Velma was under watch care at San Clair Baptist Church after relocating back to Wadley, Ga

She was proceeded in death by her husband Willie D. Rogers, father Willie A. Jackson, and mother Millard Lee Turner.

She leaves behind, her caretaker and first cousin, Katherine Turner Bynum (Gary), her beloved first cousins to cherish her memory: Marion Turner Johnson (Rev. Tommie), Evon Walton all of Wadley, GA, Alfred Charles (Laura) Turner of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Herbert Desmore of Silsbee, Texas. Her stepchildren Sarah Jane Rogers and Calvin (Tonya) Rogers, 6 step grandchildren: Dontay Taylor, Khambrel Brown, Jarvis Rogers, Kaneshia Rogers, Calvin Rogers II, and Ortavier Perry and step great grandchildren all of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Her loving sister-in-law, Emily Rogers of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, a dear sister and friend Bloomie Mae Kelly and Idell Armstead of Punchettia River.
