Words fail me to describe our sadness. He's not family, he only made his voice and heart and smile into our homes ...ooh then he was family. He's not a real musician, only showed us great dance moves, singing techniques, introduced us to music we only hear of but never quite the bomb experiences, ....ooh then he was a musician. He's not a great cook, only invited us over to great bbq's, July 4 and super bowls where we licked our fingers....oohh then he was a great cook. He's not a great dad , only relished the earth his kids walked on and spoke of his love and hopes for them.......ooohhh then he was a great dad. There is so much more I could write. This conversation could be repeated in any theme of Derick's life. I am sorry life s busy schedule got in our way and we saw less of each other in the last two years, but my heart never misses your smile/voice when I listen to R&B,or taste great wings,or watch super bowls...Derick, I will recall our memories forever, you have left an indelible place in our hearts. May God bless your SWEET MUSICAL SOUL.May God bless your family with strength and peace and love. All is well...REST IN PEACE Carole&John with love.
To my best friend in the world. First, Derrick Lewis go back to Junior high. Both of us ran for rival schools. Derrick ran for West. Me LaMar Perry, I ran for Perkins. We both won the city championship our freshman year. We didn't know it other personally, but yet still cheered for each other. We both were in Broadcasting communication with one of the greatest teachers Thomas Saal. We done everything together. After graduation Derrick went to play in a band and me in the Marine Corps. We both meet up in Atlanta and always stayed in touch. Derrick was an altruis. He was caring and compassionate and always was positive. Derrick, I love you and you will always be in my memory. Love U. LaMar Perry
My favorite memory of Derrick is his smile, I will miss him so much,my Prayers are with the Lewis Family, I love you so much, God is with you, he will heal & comfort you and celebrating that Derrick is with the Lord, absent from body, Presence with the Lord,Love you much, Phoebe
Sure will miss Derick. He had a way of making everybody laugh and smile. He would always get everybody's attention when he walked into a room. I enjoyed his visits to Dallas and the trip we took together to New York City about a year ago. You never know when it will be the last time you see or talk to someone. So, it's important to reach out and tell people how much they mean to you and that you're thinking about them. I know the family will cherish the great times spent with him. I pray that everyone will find strength in each other during this difficult time.
Rest in Peace,
Howard
