Family and friends, we come together to honor the incredible life of James Edward Goard—a man who made a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Born on July 27, 1936, in Slab Fork, Virginia, James lived with resilience, love, and a strong sense of purpose. He passed away peacefully on June 6, 2025, at the age of 88.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 14, 2025, 11:00 A.M. at The Hand of the Lord International Church, 1399 Austin Dr., Decatur, GA., with remains placed in repose at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be held Monday, June 16, 2025, at The Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, GA.

James was a man of many talents, always ready to take on a challenge. He started his journey at Murray Hill Vocational High School in New York, NY, where he developed the skills that shaped his future. At 18, determined to forge his own path, he left home and enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served with dedication and pride.

After returning home to New York, James built a life for himself and married Miriam Yearwood. Together, they had a son, Steven. Life eventually led James to single fatherhood, a role he embraced wholeheartedly.

Then, on April 15, 1972, James found his forever partner, Judith Mary White. Their love was strong, filled with laughter and unwavering support. Following what James called God's "master plan," they left New York and started fresh in Decatur, GA, alongside their three children—Vincent, Kelli, and Kristen. James had a way of making people feel like family, offering guidance, love, and support to so many. Though he once ran from church, his faith became central to his life. He played an active role in The Catalyst Church (Faith Deliverance Temple), serving as CFO and participating in ministries such as Instruments of Righteousness (Senior Ministry) and Man 2 Man.

James had a sharp wit, an unfiltered sense of humor, and a wisdom that made him a trusted confidant. He had a way of lighting up any room and making those around him feel at ease. His humor was unmatched, his words carried weight, and his presence made life richer for everyone who knew him.

James leaves behind his beloved wife, Judith, his children: Steven Goard, Vincent (Toemeika) Goard, Kelli (J. Artie) Stuckey, Kristen Goard, and Lona White (niece), and his grandchildren: Kacey, Seth, and Zoie. His legacy continues through his extended family—bonus children, nieces, nephews, and cousins—who all carry forward the love and lessons he shared. He was preceded in death by his mother, Rosabelle Johnson Corbett, whose spirit remained with him.

Instead of mourning, let's come together to honor the joy, wisdom, and love he brought into our lives. His memory will live on, always.
