On the morning of April 23, 2025, the sovereign God called our brother, Jonas DeWitt Webster, from labor to reward. Jonas endured a three-week long final fight of his life under the care of the Grady Memorial MICU and SICU staff members. Jonas was a man of great distinction, perseverance and strength of heart and mind.
Jonas DeWitt Webster was born in Norfolk, VA, on August 2, 1954. He was the 4th child of Lillie Mae and Jonas Webster. Jonas shared our father's first name so he was affectionately known to his family and childhood friends as "De" or "DeWitt." DeWitt grew up in a singing family. He was the tenor in our quartet that consisted of three brothers and one sister. He was multifaceted in his pursuits, talents and accomplishments. His unique experiences would be too many to recount in this bio.
At his passing, Jonas was a member of Hillside International Truth Center in Atlanta, GA and has been a faithful, active member since joining. Jonas enjoyed the fellowship and support of his church family until his unforeseen illness. He was a member of the Hillside Choir for several years, was known for his lively praise in the "Amen Corner", and was a member of the AATT Ministry.
Jonas "DeWitt" was preceded in death by his parents, Lillie Mae and Jonas Webster, his elder brothers, Reginald Mazingo and Robert Webster, a niece, Tracee Webster, his beloved nephew, Timothy Cowan and a special friend, Teresa Harrell.
Jonas "DeWitt" is survived by his brother, Paul Webster, sister, Patricia (Theo) Foreman, sister-in-law, Roberta Mazingo, nephews, Reginald (Cynthia) Webster Jr, Sheldon Webster, nieces, Sheryl Webster, Delphionchante Davis, Illana (Lance) Williams, Brie (Ricky) DaCosta, Jessica Ratchford, Lauren (Christopher) Johnson, grand-nephew Xavier Davis, beloved grand-nieces, Fatimiamonee Davis, and Miyani Motley, special friends, Anthony Merritt and the gang, longtime domestic helper, Stephanie English, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Hearing of the Jonas's passing saddened me. Jonas and I were members of the Booker T. Washington HIgh School, Norfolk, Virginia, Class of 1972. I remember him as a kind man with a gentle manner and an easy smile. It was so good to see him at our 50th class reunion, in 2022. When we saw each other, we held hands for a bit and chatted. I reminded him that I always thought he had the coolest name in our graduating class, which made him beam. May God comfort you as you mourn this great loss.
My sincere condolences to the family & friends of the passing of my colleague, Dr. DeWitt Webster. We were friends and professional colleagues in the field of public health. Dr. Webster was a kind and wonderful person in many ways. May his memories comfort you during this period of bereavement. Fondly, Dr. Deborah Fortune, from North Carolina Central University. Take care.

Hewitt and I became good friends since childhood. We grew up in the same neighborhood, as a matter of fact, we lived across from each other on Marlboro Avenue. DeWitt was very witty and kindhearted. We had a special attraction toward each other. Then we both found out why, we shared the same Birthday, August 2, 1954. The last time we saw one another was at our last class reunion and I reminded him who I was and we embraced each other with a warm hug. On to Glory with the Lord my Friend. See you in Heaven soon. Love Renee Billups Dew and the Billups Family.
Although miles separated us, my uncle DeWitt's presence in my life was always strong. He was kind, intelligent, wise, and adventurous. Though his physical presence is gone, his spirit and love will live on in our hearts forever. I love you to the moon and back, Uncle DeWitt.
Your Niece, Shery Mazingo Webster
