To My Dear Mom I know that everyone thinks, their mother is the best. Well let me inform them all, that I'm the one who was blessed. There was no other Mom like you, of that I am quite sure. For no matter what the pain was, you always had a cure. Not only for your family but others who you have touched in your life. I will always love you Mom. Your daughter Bobbie Jean Walden Britt

I will always treasure and love my Mother Smith. She was truly an angel here on earth, living to the beautiful age of 95. I would tell her, "When I grow up I want to be just like you." I still want to be like Mother, living a life of GRACE, guided by HOLY principles. Mother Smith started the JR. MOTHER BOARD. She taught us, young women, about being a member of the the Mother Board which included how to prepare the Communion. She said it was important that each of us had to know how to do this in case someone was absence on the first Sunday, there would be no excuse to break protocol. She also stressed that we must always set a proper example for younger girls in the church. MOTHER SMITH served as President of the Mother Board. She was also in the Senior Choir and on the Deaconess Board. MOTHER had a beautiful voice. She would push her Bruton snuff to the side of her mouth and sing the gospel "144,000." She would have the whole church clapping and jumping. What a time, what a time, we used to have at St Luke Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of PASTOR FREDERICK DYER. Rev. Dyer was one of her "sons." She loved her Pastor and he truly loved her. Another one of her sons, was my uncle, JIMMIE DURDEN. He passed before Mother. But he loved Mother and the feeling was reciprocated. Mother would cook his favorite meals and called him to come and get it! Mother Smith will always be loved and missed by hundreds, especially by us, her many adopted "sons and daughters.". BRENDA JAMES GRIFFIN daughter of MILDRED BOYD DURDEN
