Homegoing Celebration for Mr. Lonnie James Dowdell, of Alabama, will be held Saturday, March 28, 2026, 12:00 NOON at Eastlake United Methodist Church, 2500 Hosea L. Williams Dr., Atlanta, GA., with remains placed in repose at 11:00 A.M. Reverend Jesse L. Gordon, Pastor, Reverend Arthur Robinson, Officiating. Interment, Resthaven Gardens of Memory, Decatur, GA. Public Viewing and Visitation will be held at the mortuary Friday, 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife, Emma C. Dowdell; 2 daughters, Sheryl Dowdell, Linda Dowdell; 2 granddaughters, Antwana Hillman, Antionette Hillman; 2 siblings, James B. Dowdell, Annie J. Dowdell; as well as a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the mortuary Saturday, at 11:00 A.M.

We remember uncle LJ as the leader of the family and the glue that kept us all together. Before coming home to Alabama he always visited us with Lil mama and took an interest in our kids and kept up with them to make sure that they turned out great and they did. Love you always!!
Our heartfelt condolences from the Town of Notasulga. Mr. Lonnie was a kind and friendly citizen who loved sharing stories about his life here and his remarkable career in Atlanta. He touched many lives and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Please know our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.
