Mark contributed so much to the Carter Center - his gentle smile for everyone he met, his willingness to pitch in on any project, and his vast knowledge of the many flowers and trees on the property. Among my warmest memories of Mark are the time he miraculously forced the previously dormant rose garden to burst into bloom for a wedding and when he proudly introduced me to his grandson Carter. My deepest sympathy to his family during this difficult time. Mark will be missed by many. - Jan Barker, Coworker
Mark was a kind soul. I will miss his quiet smile, his willingness to do anything to help others. I will miss his friendship. Tony Clark, Carter Presidential Library
I too met Mark several years ago, while volunteering at The Carter Center. He carried an open and giving heart, an infectious smile, and a willingness to help at all times. He was one of those treasures, who intuited a need before being asked. Mark will be sorely missed by all who shared the honor of his company here on earth. God bless your family and friends Mark! Warmly, Chris
I met Mark when I started working at the Carter Center for Proof of the Pudding. I was immediately drawn to him as he was SO kind and always happy to see me as I was he. In my years, I can honestly say I've never connected to someone so instantly the way I did with him. He was such a gentle soul and His memory will remain with me forever. I'm better Of a person to have known him! Stephanie Hansard Proof of the Pudding
I met Mark as a garden volunteer at Carter Center. Everybody loved Mark! Kind, gentle, modest, very knowledeable and accomplished. All of us volunteers were grateful to know him. Lynn Koehnemann
I first met Mark when we were building The Carter Presidential Center. We enjoyed a great friendship for many years. I never knew a finer man!
I always enjoyed our interaction and can attribute so much of what I know about gardening and caring for roses to Mark. He will be sorely missed not only for his years of dedicated service at The Carter Center, but for the warm smile that he always happily shared with those he encountered. My deepest sympathy to his family during this time of grief.
