Mrs. Irma Jean Cameron Sydnor passed away peacefully at her home in Decatur, Georgia, surrounded by love.
Born in Atlanta, she was the first of three children to Weyman and Lonelle Cameron, who preceded her in death. Alongside her sisters, Bonnie and Vanessa Cameron, she grew up in the heart of the city—first attending English Avenue Elementary, then Murphy High School. Her family's faith was rooted at Central United Methodist Church, and in later years she became a devoted member of Salem Baptist Church.
Irma was a woman of incomparable spirit. She was vibrant, stylish, and full of life. She was a fashionista long before the word became popular, dreaming of becoming a fashion buyer and leaving a trail of color and joy wherever she went. At just sixteen, she began working for Southern Bell, where she spent more than twenty years as an operator. Her warm voice and easy laughter carried through the lines she connected, turning even strangers into friends.
Her natural gift for conversation and kindness later led her to CNA Insurance, where she brightened the front desk for nearly two decades, and then to Georgia Gwinnett College, where she was honored as Employee of the Year, proof that her light reached every corner she touched.
She was a neighborhood mom, a second mother to many. Her home was always full of children, music, and laughter.
Irma was formerly married to Michael Elder, with whom she shared a lifelong friendship and two beloved daughters, Jasmine and Braisley. Their bond remained one of respect and deep affection; Michael stood by her side in her final moments.
She was blessed with four grandchildren who became the absolute joy of her life—Chloe (20), Caleb (18), Cameron (17), and Lonnie (9). She rarely went anywhere without one if not all of them close by.
Irma loved to dance. She loved red lipstick, leopard print, good music, and long talks over brunch. She believed laughter was medicine, style was self-expression, and kindness was a ministry. To know her was to be reminded of how beautiful life can be when lived out loud.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her daughters, Jasmine Elder and Braisley Elder (who will soon wed Antonio Huston); grandchildren Chloe Weems, Caleb Weems, Cameron Weems, and Lonnie Elder; sisters Bonnie Cameron and Vanessa Cameron; dear friends Diane Solomon, Jennifer Rocker, Yvonne, and Dionne Language; and a host of cousins, extended family, and friends who will forever feel her absence and her light.
Irma taught everyone around her to live fully, love deeply, and always find a reason to dance. She will be remembered for her laughter, her style, and the joy she carried into every room.

Love you Auntie ❤️ hug my momma for me ❤️
An indescribably beautiful piece of our earthly family is now in heaven with our parents and the other ancestors. My sister Irma impacted so many lives. Her big expressive eyes that spoke volumes in seconds, her red lipstick and nail polish and her hot pink hair, even in her seventies, portrayed who Irma really was. She was a funloving person who enjoyed life and living. She loved to dance, 70s and 80s music, visit friends and family, and drive with the windows down. She kept in touch with all her friends and loved Facebook, always trying to go viral. She loved celebrating holidays, birthdays and especially Christmas. Her last goal was to have a huge family reunion with as many family members as possible. Well she's getting a reunion in heaven with more family members than ever! She's probably still hugging our parents, uncles, aunts, cousins, and so many more. I miss you so much Irma. I love you. Bonnie now called BingBing by your four little darlings- Chloe, Caleb, Cam and Lonnie.
A warmhearted, loving spirit will be missing from the Cameron Cousins Family Tree. Love and Laughter we will long remember and cherish. Rest in peace as you journey to your heavenly home. With love, Your cousin Bernita
With heartfelt prayers for you and your family. With hope for God you will see your sister, mother and grandmother again. Love, Nicola
My most sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family of my friend Irma. I first met Irma's sister Bonnie in elementary school, but I didn't have the pleasure of meeting Irma until years later, when we worked together at CNA Insurance Company. We became instant friends, spending countless hours reminiscing about the old neighborhood and all the people we knew in common. Irma was truly a friend to everyone she met. She was full of life, full of laughter - and oh my, what a beautifully dressed diva she was. Though life eventually took us in different directions, after our time a CNA, we always kept in touch especially around our birthdays and at Christmas. She loved her family deeply and spoke of her daughters and grandkids with so much pride and joy. To Bonnie, Jasmine, Braisley and the family, may God's love bring you comfort during this difficult time, and may you find strength in the beautiful memories you shared. I'm going to miss you, Irma Jean but I will never forget you. Vicki
