Sending love and light to the Thomas family.
Coach Thomas was my coach on the varsity basketball team at Cloverdale Jr. High 1997/1998. He was extremely hard on my teammates and I but always followed up with compassion and words of wisdom. He would challenge us to be young men with fortitude by doing the right thing when no one is looking. By the time I arrived at my first collegiate basketball practice at Tuskegee University, I fully understood why Coach Thomas pushed us the way he did. He wanted us to succeed. Nothing is given. Everything is earned. I am grateful. Thank you coach. Rest well.
While being born in Montgomery, I grew up in Louisville Ky but faithfully each summer I would spend my summers in da Gump on Tuscaloosa Street with family who lived near the Thomas home also on Tuscaloosa, so "Buckee Beaver" and I have been friends for some 70 or more years! He developed a love for sports, but evolved into a player and a coach of basketball in particular. During his employment at ASU, we would often lunch together as I was also employed at ASU's COBA. Through the years, we shared a very "Special Friendship" that transcends verbal description. Buck is "FAMLY" with me, so I respectfully bid him "R.I.P. My Precious Brother". Bo_Cobbs PS, I will request a moment of silence in "Buck's Honor" during our Gig at Wishbone Bar & Grill on Wednesday night 6-9 pm and Dedicate our Night of Music in Memory of Coach James Oscar "Buck" Thomas, and My Buddy "Buckee Beaver"! My Condolences to his brother, Kenneth Lamar Thomas, nieces Sandra and Donna and the entire Thomas family.... Love You My Brother
