Ms. Alean McCombs, 96, made a peaceful early morning departure into eternal rest with the Lord on December 2, 2025 at Hospice Wendover of Cleveland County. She was born on July 6, 1929 to the late Charlie and Gertha Taylor McCombs.
Alean was a wonderful woman, known and loved by many. She was all at once generous, wise, loving, and about her business. Her presence was both welcoming and refining, meaning that she would take you as you were, and she would help you to become better if you wanted to be better. Her love was big, it was heavy with the pull of gravity, and it will forever be carried in our hearts and memories.
Alean loved the Lord, and she instilled in her children and grandchildren a rich spiritual legacy. She was a member of Full Gospel Church of Jesus Christ (Apostolic) and later attended Bethlehem Temple. She was the sole provider for her family and retired from Southern Screens with 30+ years of service. Alean was an avid reader, and she enjoyed taking long car rides and watching WWE wrestling. She also loved baking pound cakes, and her dressing was a highlight of many family Thanksgiving gatherings.
In addition to her parents, Alean was preceded in death by her daughter Rebecca McCombs; sisters Ruby Headen, Doretha McCombs, Easdale Toms, Christine Jackson, Annie Johnson, and Jennie James; and one brother Jay H. McCombs.
She leaves to cherish fond memories her children Sherry (Gene) Williams, Martha Merriweather, Michael (Janice) McCombs, Lynn (Larry) Adams, all of Shelby, NC and John (Amy) McCombs of Blacksburg, SC; 13 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 12, 2024 at Bethlehem Temple Church, Grover, NC at 1:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Sunset Cemetery in Shelby, NC. The reception of family and friends will be from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the church. All other times the family will be meeting at 1202 Webb Drive, Shelby, NC.
The service will be livestreamed from Enloe Mortuary’s Facebook page starting at 12:45 PM on Friday.
