Obituary For Arthur Poston, Sr.

Mr. Arthur George Poston, Sr. went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at Atrium Health-Main in Charlotte, NC. He was born on January 16, 1946 in Cleveland County, NC to the late Paul Poston, Sr. and Sarah Johnson Poston.

Our dad was a beautiful kind spirit who would give anyone the shirt off of his back. He always had a kind word or offered a shoulder to lean on. Right now, I know he is wondering why all of us are not at work providing for our families, Dadgum shoot heck. He always did that to keep from using profanity. He was a very hard worker which many of us his children picked up from him as well. For all of us and his grandchildren, we loved him for who he was and how he loved us all. His best moments were when all of us were around at a gathering for his birthday or a holiday. He always enjoyed having us all right near him. We got older, and some had to move away, but we always returned to him to make a special day for him. I know he will be missed in this community very much by a lot of people. Thanks, dad for showing us how to be the people that you knew the world needed.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, James Poston, Samuel “L.C.” Poston, Sr. and Paul Poston, Jr. two sisters, Peggy Poston and Dorothy Poston and one grandson, Jamar Whisnant.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Debra Thompson Poston; his children, Melissa Sims Long of Charlotte, NC, Chichena “Chuck” Sims of Greensboro, NC, Arthur George Poston, Jr. (Karrie) of Concord, NC, Leslie Poston. Dameion Poston (fiancé, Keisha Ross) and Erica Poston Whisnant (Lamar) all of Shelby, NC; his siblings, Virgil Fitchue Poston (Dorothy) of Shelby, Julia Poston Taylor of CT, Sarah Louise Barrow (Tommy) of Shelby and Alfonzo Poston (Cynthia) of VA; eighteen grandchildren, Chaquita Sims, Kyata Strong, Devante Sims, Shamman Gantt, Takela Poston, Brittany Poston, Dejalen Poston, Isaiah Poston, Noah Poston, Elias Poston, Adriana Roberts, Jasmine Roberts Whitworth, Kalissa Long, Avery Camp, Ivy Poston, Ire’yonna Wiley, De’Azah Poston and Trevionne Whisnant; twenty-two great-grandchildren; special niece of the home, Donita Abigail Poston of the home; best friend, Donald Roseboro of Shelby and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Shiloh Baptist Church Shelby NC. Burial will take place at Sunset Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM until 2:00 PM at the church.
