Mr. Charles Ray Lynch was born on May 3, 1936 in Rutherford County, NC to Garner and Ruth Lynch and departed this life on August 23, 2022 at the Atrium Cleveland Pines Nursing facility in Shelby, NC.
Charles attended school at Brooks Chapel United Methodist Church. Although he did not complete high school, Charles was a hard working man and from an early age, worked in farming, sawmilling and construction. Charles was very wise and gifted and exhibited this in his ability to master the art of pouring concrete. He worked on several high profile projects, such as the Chesapeake Bay Bridge in Virginia and as a contractor for the city of Harrisburg, PA. He was last self-employed as the owner of Charles Lynch Concrete Company.
Charles was always very active and enjoyed fishing, gardening, gospel music, watching sports, telling jokes, wearing hats, and cooking but most of all spending time with family. He was the eldest of eight (8) siblings and became a father figure for his younger siblings and their families. In his latter years, he publicly confessed Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at Palmer Grove Baptist Church by his nephew Rev. Dr. Chris Gash.
Charles was preceeded in death by his parents Garner and Ruth Lynch; Maternal Grandparents Annie Ruth and Ray Hunt; and Paternal Grandparents Hattie and Jason Lynch; a brother, Larry (Doby) Lynch and a dear nephew, Lyle Gash.
He is survived by his Life Partner, Shirley Ann Lewis of Harrisburg, PA; one son, Charles Ray Lewis (Rashida) of Kingstown, NC; one grandchild, Chaylon Ray Lewis of Kingstown; two stepsons, Ephraim Lewis (Shani) and Lamont Lewis (Maria) both of Harrisburg PA.
Charles has six sisters, Diann McCullough, Dororthy Jolly, Janet Gerald, Ramona Gash (Paul), Lynn Jackson (George), and Renee Lynch, all of Kingstown; nine stepgrandchildren; eighteen step great-grandchildren as well as several beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2022 at 12:30 PM at Palmer Grove Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until 12:30 PM on Saturday and at other times at 119 PineForest Drive. Burial will take place at the church cemetery.
