Obituary For David Lattimore

Pastor David Lee Lattimore was born on May 14, 1947 in Cleveland County, NC. He departed this life for his eternal one on October 18, 2021 in Shelby, NC. His life was full of love, family and service to his community. He has always been a man of purpose, most recently campaigning for the Senate seat in North Carolina’s 44th District. He was also mayor of Kings Town for three terms. Pastor David Lee’s legacy was to spread the word of the Lord as the Pastor of Jerusalem Baptist Church in Harris, NC and as the president of the Laymen League Leadership for Christian Men. He was a voice for the youth as a teacher at Shelby High and Burns High Schools; a youth basketball coach for Dover-Lattimore Elementary, and the president of the Cleveland Youth Program. As a lifelong learner, he graduated from Gardner-Webb University with a Bachelor’s degree and an Associate’s degree from Cleveland Technical Community College.

Although the sun has set on Pastor David Lee’s story, his voice will remain in our memories, quoting Psalm 23:4 “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for thou art with me.” His devotion to others will never be forgotten and he will be missed by a host of family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Lattimore, Sr. and Willie Mae Goddard Lattimore and his sisters, Helen Schofield, Linda Mae Lattimore, Virginia Agers and Christine “Shirley” Saddler.

Pastor David is survived by his faithful and loving wife of 50 years, Sylvia Ann Lattimore; his three children, Germaine Lee Lattimore, II, Crystal Ann Lattimore, Rodney Oneil Lattimore and his daughter-in-law, Lisa Lattimore; his grandchildren, Hykeem Hopper, Shakela Stinson and DaShawn Lattimore-Sims; great-grandchildren, Toyta Hopper, Nevaeh Hopper-Lattimore; his siblings, Grace Strong, Hazel Sims, Beatrice Rogers, Sarah “Cookie” Sims, Cherry Ann Rogers and Walter Lattimore, Jr. Pastor David Lee is also survived by 29 nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
