Mrs. Doris Ann Cannedy Poston entered into eternal rest on Sunday, April 30, 2023 at Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville, NC. She was born on October 9, 1943 in Cleveland County, NC to the late Lottie Mae Cannedy Webber and the late Gary Ratchford.
Doris was a 1961 graduate of Washington High School and completed beauty school in NY in 1962. She completed Project Sunrise Training in 1986. Doris was a Child Development Associate for the Cleveland County Headstart Program for 30 years. She received Early Childhood Professional Recognition in 1998. Doris loved to read the bible, go to church, and had a love for children. She also enjoyed shopping. Everybody referred to her as the diva of fashion.
Doris was a very smart, resourceful, stern and determined individual. She would do anything to help her husband, children, grandchildren, or anyone in need. As a Head start Teacher for over 30 years, she was dearly loved by all the children in Cleveland County. Doris was the matriarch of the family. She made sure the family reunions were held every year by assisting with organizing the committee to choose the location, food, and activities for the reunion. Everyone was welcome.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Ernest Webber; her grandparents who reared her, Alonzo and Eunice Cannedy and her brothers, Walter Scott Cannedy, Woodrow Webber, Larry Webber and Marshall Webber.
She leaves fond memories of her to, her husband of 59 years, Marvin Poston; three children, Pamela Poston and Christopher Poston both of Washington, DC and Michelle Poston Osborne (Casey) of Grover, NC; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Wayne Webber (Mert) of Forest City, NC, Elvin Webber (Carol) of Baltimore, MD, Kevin Webber (Rosa) of Gaffney, SC; sisters, Kawanna Surratt (Sherman) of Shelby, NC and Selma Webber of Columbia, SC; a special aunt, Roshelle Cannedy of Shelby and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Hopewell Baptist Church. The service will be livestreamed starting at 12:45 PM from Enloe Mortuary Facebook Page. The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until 1:00 PM and at other times at the home.
Doris was such a sweet and humble person I worked with her several years and what you saw is what you got no fake person for she was loved by many.i will miss you Doris my Facebook friend. Mary Dorsey Sims
