Mr. Douglas Edward Gill was born to the late Robert E. Gill and the late Eva Maeola Degree Gill on August 9, 1949 in Shelby, NC. He peacefully departed this earthly life while surrounded by his family at his residence in Alexandria, Virginia on December 24, 2022.
Douglas was educated in the Cleveland County School System, graduating from Cosmetology School and working as a barber and cosmetologist until his retirement. Douglas enjoyed doing benevolent acts for the homeless and shampooing, cutting and grooming hair. Before moving to Virginia, he worked at P.P. G. Industries.
Douglas leaves to mourn his memories to his wife, Emma Martin Gill of Alexandria, Virginia; two daughters, MSgt. Lacy Eckley of the U.S.A.F. (John) of San Antonia, TX and Latonia Mechelle Gill; one son, Manning Farley of Lawndale, NC; three sisters, Wandra Gill, Sandra Gill and Sheila Gill Tate all of Shelby; one brother, Jack Perry of Charlotte, NC; two grandchildren, Lilliana Kathryn Eckley and Isabella Marie Eckley both of San Antonio, TX; three nieces, Charmaine Gill of Kings Mountain, NC, Temeshia L. Wray and Tanya D. Gill Johnson both of Shelby; four great-nephews, Alandus Card of Shelby, Tygee Gill of Kings Mountain, Justin Wray of Shelby and Joshua Mackey of Brooklyn, NY; special uncle and aunt, Mr. Fred Degree, Jr. and Mrs. Beatrice Degree and a host of great-great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Mount Calvary Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM until 2:00 PM
I am so sorry Doug is gone. Sorriest that I didn't know until now. He was a breath of fresh air to a new y in Alexandria, Va when I moved there and ran into him at a local mall. My God bless continually his family and sisters and I pray he finds eternal rest with Jesus. Amen Tank Winston
