Frances Coretha Scott Jamison was born January 14, 1925 in Coalwood, West Virginia. She peacefully transitioned to her heavenly home on May 3, 2023.
Frances was one of eleven children born to the late William Marshall and Nannie F. Scott. Frances grew up in Rutherford County and attended Rutherford County schools. She eventually moved to Cleveland County after meeting her husband, John P. Jamison, the gentleman with whom she would marry and spend the remainder of her life. Jake and Frances remained devoted to each other for fifty-eight years until his death in 1997.
Mrs. Jamison was a beacon of light that brightened and guided the path of her family. She was a role model, provided guidance, taught responsibility, and wanted her children and grandchildren to be productive members of society.
Frances, affectionately known as “Muh” a name given to her by her grandchildren was admired, respected, and loved.She was a mother figure to many, in the absence of them not having a parental figure. She also served a caregiver for numerous family members and friends during illness or when they were homeless.
Mrs. Jamison was a lifelong devoted and loyal member of Youngs Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, where she served as Chairman of the Deaconess Board and worked on various other committees as needed. Her church work continued until her health declined but even then, she continued to support her church financially.
Mrs. Jamison was proceeded in death by her husband, John P. Jamison, her daughter, Helen Jamison Surratt, and her grandson, Jason Jamison Surratt. Left to cherish fond memories, are two daughters, Portia Jamison-Morrow, a former son-in-law, Alonzo A. Morrow, Sr., Pastor Karen Poston (Jackie), all of Shelby; one sister, Margaret Scott of Columbus, Ohio; eleven grandchildrenRobin Surratt James (Kenny), of Georgia, Otis Maurice Surratt and Rosilind Sullivan of Shelby, Dedric Poston of Charlotte, Elder Patrick Poston of Shelby, Dr. Zo Morrow, II of Belmont,Edward Bernard Surratt, Sr. (Summer) of Davidson, T. Scott Morrow of Belmont, Trellieas Poston of Shelby, Kailee Niko Morrow of Mebane, and TauriAriel Jamison Morrow, of Charlotte; twelve great-grandchildren Shannon Surratt Pharr, Jasmine Surratt, DedricWezleyLowery, Christopher Poston, Asiah Poston,Amanda Poston, Nicholas Maurice Surratt, Aleah Addison, TrestonElmore, Edward Bernard Surratt, II, Lauren Ann Surratt, Sariah Ford, Frances Marley-Elle Jennings, and Nathan Lorenzo Jennings, III; twelve great-great grandchildren including, Channon Pharr and Jordyn McGhee. A special niece Patricia Hutley (Thomas) of Shelby; other nieces include Rhonda Logan, of Winston Salem, Ramona Hale (Ed) of Coalwood, West Virginia, Faye Degree (Jerry), GinnieJamison, and Carolyn Walker all of Shelby; two nephews, Robert Jamison (Linda) of Forest City, and Christopher Scott (Hilda) of Columbus, Ohio.
Mrs. Jamison was a devoted mother, loving grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and a friend to everyone. She will be sorely missed by all, and will be forever in our hearts. We love you Mother. Thank you for being you.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at 3:00 PM at S.T. Enloe Memorial Chapel. The service will be livestreamed starting at 2:45 PM from Enloe Mortuary’s FaceBook Page. The family will receive friends from 2:30 PM until 3:00 PM at the chapel. Burial will take place at Young’s Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church.
