Obituary For Garry Vinson

Mr. Garry Donell Vinson, 65, of Lawndale, NC, formerly of Hickory, NC departed this life on Friday, March 3, 2023 at Atrium Health-Cleveland in Shelby, NC. He was born on February 4, 1958 in Cleveland County, NC to Lucy Johnson Vinson and the late Robert Lee Vinson, Sr.

Garry grew up in Lawndale and he was named by his aunt, Gladys. Garry was a graduate of Burns High School. He relocated to Hickory and was employed with the City of Hickory until he became disabled. He enjoyed dancing and he absolutely loved Parliament Funkedelic without a doubt! Other favorite activites of his were yard work, car detailing, donning his caps and shades and routing for his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers.

Garry was a fun and funny person who was always the life of any situation. He had a sincere heart and reverence for God. He was a very meticulous dresser and he sincerely loved his family and friends.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his son, Shonnell Blackburn; brother, Robert Lee Vinson, Jr.; sister, Betty Vinson and special cousin, Ronnie Vinson.

He leaves to cherish his memory to his mother, Lucy J. Vinson of Lawndale; his daughter, Louvonda Vinson; his sister, Revonda Vinson of Lawndale; 11 grandchildren; aunts, Gladys Perkins of Kings Mountain, NC, Sheila Vinson of Hickory, NC, Thedosia Lawrence (Paul) of Lawndale, Jeanette Grimes of Hickory, NC, Mattie Bell Vinson, Betty Clark (John) of Lawndale; one uncle, Willie Grimes of Lawndale; niece, India Westbrook (Shondell) of Mooresville, NC; nephews, Marlon Vinson of Lawndale, Ryan Vinson of Shelby and Jirian Woody (Brittany) of Greensboro, NC; close friends, Leroy Degree and Tyrone Taylor and a host of great-nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at 3:30 PM at S. T. Enloe Memorial Chapel. Burial will take place at Jones Tabernacle C.M.E. Church. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 3:30 PM on Saturday and at other times at 2867 Toney Rd. in Lawndale.
