Mrs. Hazel Joann Lattimore Sims was born, April 9, 1937 in Cleveland County, NC on April 9, 1937. She departed this life on Friday, November 3, 2023 at Atrium Health, Cleveland in Shelby, NC at the age of 86 years old.
She was the second oldest child born to the late Walt and Willie Mae Lattimore. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Lawndale with her membership there spanning over 60 years. She has served over the years as a member of the usher board, as a missionary and a choir member. She was also a member of the Elizabeth Chapter # 3 of the Order of the Eastern Stars. In her free time, she loved to cook. She also loved her family dearly and her spiritual legacy lives on in each one of them.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sims was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton M. Sims whom she was married to for over 60 years; four sisters, Helen Scofield, Linda Lattimore, Virginia Ager and Christine Sadler and a brother, Rev. David Lattimore.
She leaves to cherish fond memories to her four children, Romaine Oates (Sherwood), Rev. Harold M. Sims (Deller), Howard Sims (Paula) and Flora Sims; four sisters, Grace Strong ,Sarah Sims Cherry Rogers and Beatrice Rogers; one brother, Walter J. Lattimore; two sisters-in-law, Sylvia Lattimore and Beatrice Sims; four brothers-in-law, Charles Sims, Bill Sims, Gene Sadler and Gerald Rogers and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at 1:30 PM at First Baptist Church Lawndale. The family will receive friends at the church Saturday at 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM. Burial will take place at the church cemetery. The family will also receive friends from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Friday evening at S. T. Enloe Memorial Chapel as well as the home, 105 Douglas St. Lawndale.
