James Porter, Jr. transitioned to his heavenly home on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at White Oak Manor in Kings Mountain, NC. James was born on July 12, 1937 to the late James Porter, Sr. and the late Daisy Gault Porter.
James who was affectionately known as “June” or “Porter” was no stranger to the Shelby NC community. He was a hard worker having been employed at Esther and Doran Mills where he retired. He was also the neighborhood taxi in his community “The Knot”. James had a loving and kind spirit helping out anyone he could.
James was a faithful member of Shiloh Baptist Church joining under the leadership of Rev. R. E. Devoe. While at Shiloh, he attended Sunday school and was an usher. He would often talk about the sermons and Sunday school lessons.
One of his favorite pastimes was attending the McKissick-Porter and Gault Family Reunions. You would often find him talking about the Western shows on t.v. James leaves a lifetime of memories to those lives he touched. His earthly legacy will remain etched in the hearts of his family and friends.
James was reared by his father and step-mother, Venice Allen Porter who preceded him in death. Also waiting on him is a brother and sister-in-law, Arthur Porter, Sr. (Pauline) and sisters, Lavonia Phillips and Nettie P. Reid.
Those who are left to cherish his memory is a sister, Judy Woods of Shelby, NC; nieces, Tammy Stephens, of Gastonia, NC, Wanda Porter of Charlotte, NC, Vanessa Jefferies of Gaffney, SC, Karen Jones of Greenwood, SC and Leatha Littlejohn of Gaffney, SC. Nephews, Arthur Porter, Jr. of Charlotte, NC, Willie Porter of Gastonia, NC, Franklin Porter of Middletown, CT, David Porter of Boiling Springs, NC, Robert Oglesby, Jr. of Gastonia, NC and Scott Oglesby of Grover, NC and also many other loving family members and friends.
The funeral service for Mr. Porter will be held on Monday, August 30, 2021 at 3:00 PM at Shiloh Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 2:30 PM until 3:00 PM at the church. Burial will take place at Palmer Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
To the family of Mr James Porter,Jr: We are very sorry to hear about your love one have passed away and we hope that God will comfort you all during these days of Grief.
