Mr. John Nathan Nance, 65, of 1426 Clearbrook Drive, Shelby, NC departed this life on October 29, 2022 at Atrium Health. He was born on January 14, 1957 in Cleveland County to the late Eldred Neal Nance and the late Velma McConnell Nance. In addition to his wife Eleanor Williams Nance, John was preceded in death by one brother; Dennis E. Nance (Lebra), three sisters; Janice N, Burris, Lola N. Chambers, and Linda N. Johnson, great granddaughter; Alannah R. Gamble, two nephews; Allen D. Nance and Melvin D. Barnett III. John graduated from Crest High 1975. While in high school he played the trombone in band and drove the school bus. After graduating from high school, he continued his education at Appalachian State University, where he also participated in band. He was a member and bass singer of the Crusade Choir at Mt. Zion United Church of God, Greensboro, NC. He was employed at PPG Industries. Upon moving to Greensboro NC, he was employed with Guilford Mills and UNCG. After retiring from UNCG he found joy in driving for Uber. John is survived by daughter; Keisha D. Gregory, son Kenji J. Nance (Shekia) of Shelby, two grand daughters; Paris and London Gregory, two sisters; Sheila Nance and Angela Nance both of Shelby, NC, special aunt; Lallage Carouthers of Shelby, NC, special nephew; Dennis A. Nance of Greensboro, NC, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, November 5, 2022 at 3:00 at Shoal Creek Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 3 at the church.
