Ms. Lucrecia “Miss Newt” Thomas Brooks departed this life on Monday, June 21, 2021 at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center in Shelby, NC. She was born on August 13, 1939 in Cleveland County, NC to the late Roy Thomas and the late Rosabell Wright Thomas.
“Miss Newt” as she was called by many was employed with the B. H. Yarbrough and Gene Yarbrough Families for a number of years. She was a very family oriented person who loved to get her family together especially on Sundays and holidays to cook and bake for them and didn’t like to see anyone unfed. She also loved to sew and dance.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Willie Brooks; a daughter, Cynthia Brooks; sisters, Rev. Rosalee Brooks, Jennie Mae Howell, Elizabeth Jones and Bonnie Lou Tate; brothers, Jay Thomas, Gene Thomas, Grady Thomas , Joe Thomas and Emmit Thomas and a special nephew whom she helped rear, Bill Jones.
She leaves to cherish fond memories of her to her daughter, Shelia Ann Brooks (Perry); a “special daughter”, Willieann Chambers; step-son, Leonard Huskey; a sister, Marie Poston; grandchildren, Travis Brooks (Brenda) and Crystal Brooks (Reggie); special great-nephew who was like a grandchild, Adaryll Jones and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The funeral service for Ms. Brooks will be held on Sunday, June 27, 2021 at 2:00 PM at S.T. Enloe Memorial Chapel. The service will be livestreamed starting at 1:45 PM. She can be viewed from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM. The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM until 2:00 PM at the chapel. Condolences can be expressed online at www.enloemortuary.com. I will always remember the special times,"Aunt Dorothy" spend with our family. She was a amazing mother,sister,aunt, and friend. She will be missed but her memories shall always be with us. Continuous prayers to the family!
