Mrs. Lucy Ellen Johnson Vinson, 87, of 2867 Toney Road, Lawndale, NC, departed this life on Friday March 29, 2024, at Wendover Hospice House in Shelby, NC. She was born February 19, 1937, in Cleveland County, NC to the late John Henry Johnson and Sue Bell Lumpkin Johnson.
At an early age, Lucy joined First Baptist Church of Lawndale and was always a praying woman of God. Lucy was also a graduate of Douglas High School. She worked tirelessly taking care of the children from the community and was known as the ‘neighborhood babysitter’. Lucy had a huge love for her sports, western movies and her conversations would spark a light within you.
Lucy was married to the late Mr. Robert Lee Vinson, Sr. for 53 years. Out of this union, she leaves to cherish her memory to her daughter Revonda Joyce Vinson.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter Betty Vinson; sons, Garry D. Vinson and Robert Lee Vinson, Jr; grandsons, Shonniel Blackburn and Bobby Woody, III, and brothers Horace “B” Johnson, Lee Arthur “Boot” Johnson and James Henry Johnson.
She also leaves to cherish her memory to her grandsons, Marlon Vashon Vinson of Lawndale, NC, Ryan Corey Vinson of Shelby, NC, and Jirian Rashad Woody (Brittany Woody) of Greensboro, NC; granddaughters, Lovvonda Vinson of Hickory, NC and India Westbrook (Shaundell Miree Westbrook, Sr.) of Charlotte, NC; great- grandchildren, Isaiah Nicholas Wilson , Zion Wilson, and Shiloh Wilson, all of Queens, New York, Shaundell Miree Westbrook, Jr. of Charlotte, NC, Israel Woody, Jiyael Woody, and Mckinley Woody, all of Greensboro, NC; siblings, Mattie Bell Vinson and Betty Clark(John) both of Lawndale, NC; a special brother in law, Willie Grimes, of Lawndale, NC; sisters-in-Law, Gladys Perkins of Kings Mountain, NC, Sheila Vinson of Hickory, NC, Thedosia Lawrence(Paul) and Willie Mae Hector Johnson both of Lawndale, NC; along with many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews who were like her very own children; very special caretakers, Stephanie Lawrence, Lori Bell, Liz Jones and Hospice Cleveland County staff.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 12 noon at S.T. Enloe Mortuary and Chapel, 231 N. Lafayette St, Shelby, N.C. Reception of family and friends will be from 11:30 a.m. until 12 noon. Burial will be at Jones C.M.E. Tabernacle, Lawndale, NC.
