Mr. Michael Laborn was born on July 20, 1961in Cleveland County and he transitioned on October 13, 2022 at Medstar Washington Hospital in Washington, DC. Michael was the son of the late Joe Thomas and the late Jesse Mae Ross.
Michael was highly skilled in monumental masonry and worked at Stone Memorials for over 35 years or more. Michael loved traveling, spending time with his family. He was a very jovial and his laugh came from the depths of his soul. You could not be around him and not feel uplifted. He loved the Lord wholeheartedly and lastly he was a die hard Dallas Cowboys fan. (inside joke Dad).
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Beverly Smith and Elizabeth Laborn; a brother, Marvin Laborn; nephews, Lauran Christopher Smith and Larry Laborn, Jr and a special friend, Katie Wilson.
He is survived by one daughter, Trina Michelle Byers of Gastonia, NC; one son, Michael Washington of Charlotte, NC; two sisters, Debra Galmer of Shelby and Jasmine Tammy Thomas (Gene) of Washington, DC; brothers, Larry Laborn (Virginia) and Benjamin Laborn both of Shelby; grandchildren, Jaleesia Tychelle Catlin, Tre’Quon Dontrez Catlin, Aniyah MaKayla Byers, Phalon Asharia Byers and Katie Ariel Byers; four additional grandchildren; two greatgrandchildren, Ayanna and Kayden; special friend, Athena “Kay” Wilson and her children Claudia Veney, Rejineta Carroll and Antionette Weaver; one niece, Marquita Michael; two nephews, Joseph Michael and Jerry Thomas; his caregiver, Claudia Veney and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at 2:00 PM at S.T. Enloe Memorial Chapel. Burial will take place at Sunset Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM until 2:00 PM on Tuesday and at other times at 209 W. Shannonhouse Drive, Shelby. Masks will be required if attending the service on Tuesday.
