Obituary For Michael McGill

Michael Eugene “Mike” McGill, Sr. was born in Shelby NC to the late Betty Sue McGill Hopper. He attended Shelby City Schools, was a member of Hoppers Chapel Baptist Church. He retired from Anvil Knits, He joined the military and married his first wife, Carolyn Giles (friend) to whom two children were born. Mike was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

He was preceded in death by a son Michael McGill Jr;.step-father, Dee Hopper; brother Edward Hopper, grandmother, Bertha McGill Surratt and grandson Brandon Brice.

He leaves to cherish his wife Brenda Hopper McGill of Shelby NC; three children, Micshandia Giles-McGill of Dallas NC, Jessica Bradford Watson(Jeremiah) Typain Hopper all of Shelby NC; Godchildren Quavis Harper, Rodrick Young who he raised all of Shelby NC; special nephew whom he helped raise,Devoshia Surratt of Jacksonville Florida. He also leaves to cherish a sister, Shirley McGill Howard of Kings Mountain NC; brothers, Freddie Hopper, Forest City NC, Larry Hopper of Nashville, TN, Robert McGill ( Sharon)of Atlanta GA, Kendale McGill, James McGill(Robin), Thomas McGill, Joseph McGill all of Kings Mountain NC; step daughter, Tameka Davis Pressley(Kenny) of Gastonia NC; special nephew, Sean Young; special cousins-Stella Surratt, Aunyette Surratt; special great grand- Aubrey Moore whom he loved dearly loved; aunts : Pathina Strong( Bob); Jewline McGill, Loretta Wright ( Dennis) Kathalene Hardin ( Bobby) all of Shelby NC, Dorothy Bell, Clover SC;9 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren; close friends- Thomas Brown, Carl Lee Gaston, Paul Dawkins, Butch Hopper and Patricia Hartgrove all of Shelby NC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 10, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Hopper’s Chapel Baptist Church. The service will be livestreamed starting at 1:45 PM from Enloe Mortuary Facebook Page. Burial will take place at Sunset Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM until 2:00 PM and at other times at 1333 North Lafayette Street Shelby.
