Obituary For Mittie Hopper

Mrs. Mittie Ruth “Goofy” Allen Hopper, 75, of Shelby, NC passed away on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, NC. She was born on May 30, 1945 in Cleveland County, NC to the late Rev. Robert Allen and the late Mittie Lee Proctor Allen Oates.

Mrs. Hopper was a faithful member of Ellis Chapel Baptist Church for approximately 20 years. She was formerly employed with Hager’s Restaurant and was retired from Esther Mills. Mrs. Hopper was a very straight forward and humorous person earning her nickname “Goofy”. She enjoyed flower gardening and socializing with her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Garland Hopper, Jr.; her son, James “Muffy” Allen and her brothers, Robert Lee Allen, Kenneth Allen and Henry Allen.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her three daughters, Dorothy Mae Hopper Morgan, Lisa L. Stroud and Dianne Hopper all of Shelby; two brothers, Jimmy Lee Allen (Tyetta) and Floyd McShaw (Cynthia) both of Shelby; two sisters, Mary McDowell of Shelby and Rev. Rebecca Louise Ross (Rev. Cleo) of Newton, NC; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two special nieces, Debra Watson and Sandra Moore and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services for Ms. Hopper will be private. She may be viewed at Ellis Chapel Baptist Church from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 24, 2021. The family will be receiving friends from 2:30 PM until 3:00 PM at Ellis Chapel Baptist Church on Saturday. Burial will take place at the church cemetery.
